Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in India (Tamil Nadu region) seeks a Civil Engineer with 6–10 years of experience to lead building construction, interior fit-out, and facilities maintenance at its site.

You will supervise housekeeping, gardening, 5S implementation, and coordinating with architects, contractors, and vendors. Job Purpose

To perform various assignments designed to improve the facility, assist in supporting the manufacturing operation and site infrastructure developments

Job Duties

The Civil Engineer with 6-10 years of experience is required and will be responsible for managing and executing building construction activities, interior fit-out works, building and facilities maintenance, soft services supervision (housekeeping & gardening), and ensuring high standards of workplace organization through 5S implementation. The role requires strong technical knowledge, on-site coordination skills, and the ability to handle multiple facility operations simultaneously.

Degree requirement:

Graduate in Civil Engineering or relevant experience but should have a graduation in Engineering

Key Responsibilities

• Building Construction & Interior Works
• Plan, execute, and monitor civil construction projects as per drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
• Coordinate and supervise interior fit-out works including carpentry, partitions, painting, flooring, ceilings, and finishing.
• Prepare BOQ, estimate materials, labor, and timelines for project activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
• Liaise with architects, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Building & Facility Maintenance
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of buildings, civil structures, plumbing, and related utilities.
• Conduct routine inspections of facility infrastructure and identify repair needs.
• Manage AMCs and coordinate with service providers for timely execution of maintenance tasks.
• Monitor maintenance KPIs and prepare reports.
• Housekeeping & Gardening Supervision
• Ensure effective supervision of housekeeping staff and adherence to cleanliness standards.
• Manage landscape and gardening activities including upkeep, watering schedules, vendor coordination, and beautification projects.
• Conduct periodic audits of housekeeping and gardening areas.
• 5S & Workplace Management
• Implement and sustain 5S methodology across facilities and project sites.
• Conduct 5S audits, awareness training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure high levels of workplace organization, safety, and productivity.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare daily/weekly progress reports, material consumption reports, and compliance documentation.
• Maintain records of work orders, maintenance logs, and vendor performance.
• Support budgeting and cost-control activities.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and building codes.
• Experience in interior execution and finishing works.
• Hands-on knowledge of facility maintenance practices.
• Good understanding of housekeeping & landscaping operations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and project scheduling tools.
• Strong communication, vendor management, and team supervision skills.
• Knowledge and practical application of 5S or similar workplace improvement systems.
