Job summary

StylSmyth is seeking a Fabric Merchandiser in Mumbai (Lower Parel) to manage fabric sourcing, development, price negotiation and production coordination to ensure quality, cost and timely fabric availability. You will identify suppliers, negotiate terms, manage greige fabric purchases, coordinate with dyeing/finishing, and maintain accurate records of orders and stock.

Applicants should have 5–7 years of experience in apparel sourcing/merchandising, deep fabric knowledge, and strong MS Office

• Proven experience as a Fabric Merchandiser or similar role in textile.
• Strong knowledge of fabrics, textures, and finishes.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion / Textile / Merchandising.

Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate fabric suppliers for quality, cost, and reliability.
• Negotiate prices, terms, and lead times with suppliers.
• Coordinate fabric delivery with production timelines.
• Analyze fabric costs to meet budgets and target pricing.
• Maintain fabric library, orders, deliveries, and supplier contracts.
• Build relationships with suppliers and resolve disputes.

About the Role

Title - Fabric Merchandiser

Role Overview: Manage fabric sourcing and procurement, including supplier identification, fabric development, price negotiation, production coordination, and inventory planning to ensure the right quality, cost, and timely availability of fabrics.

Fabric Sourcing and Procurement

• Identify and evaluate potential fabric suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms, and lead times with fabric suppliers.
• Manage the purchase of greige fabrics based on quality, construction, quantity, and delivery requirements.
• Coordinate with process houses for dyeing, printing, finishing, and other fabric processing requirements.
• Source fabrics by going to fabric market or supplier places that are in line with customer specifications.

Production Planning and Coordination

• Coordinate fabric delivery schedules with the production team to align with manufacturing timelines.
• Collaborate with the production team to solve fabric-related challenges in the production process.

Cost Optimization and Budget Management

• Analyse and review fabric costs to align with the budget and target pricing.
• Identify opportunities for cost-saving in fabric procurement while maintaining quality standards.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain records of fabric library, orders, deliveries, and supplier contracts.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on fabric usage, costs, and stock levels.

Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with fabric suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors to negotiate favourable terms.
• Resolve any issues or disputes with suppliers in a timely and professional manner.

Job Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fabric Merchandiser or similar role in the textile industry.
• Strong knowledge of fabrics, textures, and finishes.
• Familiarity with fabric testing procedures.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Required Candidate Profile

• Strong exposure to fabrics.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion / Textile / Merchandising.
• 5-7 years of experience in apparel sourcing / merchandising.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
