Job summary

SHYAM METALICS AND ENERGY LIMITED is seeking an Environment Executive to manage regulatory compliance and environmental performance across air, water, soil, and noise. Responsibilities

  • Obtain and renew environmental permits (CTE/CTO) from SPCB.
  • Prepare statutory returns and file environmental statements and waste reports.
  • Liaise with auditors and inspectors during site visits and audits.
  • Update SOPs with regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor ambient air quality, stack emissions, noise, and wastewater.
  • Oversee ETP/STP/CETP operations and onsite labs coordination.
  • Maintain OCEMS data transmission to regulators and labs.
  • Supervise hazardous waste handling and proper disposal.
  • Drive waste minimization and rainwater harvesting initiatives.
  • Track water usage and identify leakages for efficiency.

Job description

The Environment Executive is responsible for tracking environmental performance parameters across air, water, soil, and noise. Operating under the EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) or sustainability department, this position manages regulatory documentation, effluent/emission control systems, and waste disposal protocols in line with national and local environmental laws.

Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
  • Obtain and renew permits such as Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) from State Pollution Control Boards (SPCB).
  • Prepare and file statutory returns including annual environmental statements (Form V), hazardous waste returns (Form 4), and e-waste reports.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory inspectors during routine site visits and environmental audits.
  • Track changing environmental laws and update internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure continuous legal compliance.
  • Monitor ambient air quality, stack emissions, noise levels, and wastewater discharge parameters daily.
  • Oversee operations of pollution control equipment including Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP).
  • Coordinate with certified labs (MoEFCC/NABL accredited) for regular sample collection, testing, and data validation.
  • Maintain Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) to ensure real-time data transmission to regulatory servers.
  • Supervise hazardous waste handling, segregation, storage, and safe disposal through authorized TSDF (Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility) vendors.
  • Implement waste minimization techniques based on the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to reduce landfill burdens.
  • Track water consumption metrics, identify leakages, and drive rainwater harvesting or zero liquid discharge (ZLD) initiatives.
Sustainability & Training
  • Collect data for ESG reporting (Environmental, Social, and Governance), carbon footprint calculations, and corporate sustainability metrics.
  • Conduct environmental awareness training and drills for on-site employees and contract workers.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, root causes, or community complaints and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree (B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc.) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of hands-on experience handling environmental compliance, preferably at a manufacturing plant or heavy industrial site.
  • Technical Savvy: Strong understanding of ETP/STP operations, emissions chemistry, and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) standards.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with national acts (e.g., Water Act, Air Act, Environment Protection Act, Hazardous Waste Rules).
  • Soft Skills: Strong documentation skills, detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to clearly convey compliance expectations to shop-floor workers.
