Job summary

Lifecell in Chennai, Tamil Nadu seeks a Lab Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day wet lab activities, ensure accurate sample processing, DNA extraction, and Exome library preparation reports.

The role involves supervising staff, training on SOPs, QA improvements, CAPA handling, biosafety compliance, and maintaining patient data confidentiality while escalating incidents as needed.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related life sciences.
• Hands-on experience with genomic DNA extraction, quality control (Qubit/Bioanalyzer), and NGS library preparation for Whole Exome Sequencing (WES).
• Strong understanding of laboratory biosafety protocols, PPE/IPC usage, handling of infectious samples, and clinical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day wet lab activities and ensure accuracy for sample processing, DNA extraction, and Exome library reports.
• Manage staff duty schedules, allocate lab tasks, and train team on SOPs and equipment handling.
• Develop and optimize wet lab protocols (target enrichment, hybridization, sequencing runs) and drive QC improvements.
• Verify critical or alert test results before data release and implement CAPA for deviations.
• Enforce biosafety guidelines, PPE usage, waste disposal, and public health reporting for high-risk samples.
• Maintain patient data privacy and monitor safety procedures to minimize lab risks.
• Escalate major incidents to management and support team wellbeing; cover Team Leader role when needed.
• Execute ad-hoc wet lab or administrative duties as assigned by superiors.

• Lab Operations & Oversight: Supervise day-to-day wet lab activities and ensure accuracy for all sample processing, DNA extraction, and Exome library preparation reports.
• Team & Roster Management: Manage staff duty schedules, allocate lab tasks, and train team members on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and equipment handling.
• Assay & Quality Improvement: Develop and optimize wet lab protocols (e.g., target enrichment, hybridization, sequencing runs) and drive continuous quality control (QC) improvements.
• Critical Value & CAPA Management: Verify critical or alert test results before data release, and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for any laboratory deviations.
• Biosafety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to infection control (IPC), personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, waste disposal, and public health reporting guidelines for high-risk samples.
• Confidentiality & Safety: Maintain absolute patient data privacy and actively monitor workplace occupational safety and health procedures to minimize lab risks.
• Operational Continuity: Escalate major incidents or adverse reports to management, support team mental health reporting, and step in for the Team Leader when absent.
• Ad-hoc Tasks: Execute any other wet lab or administrative duties assigned by superiors.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: Masters degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related life sciences field.
