Job summary

Bajaj Auto Limited is seeking an experienced Lighting Systems Engineer to lead lighting development for multiple bike projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design headlamps, tail lamps, and indicators, ensuring performance, quality, cost and manufacturability targets are met.

You will ensure regulatory compliance and interface with Electrical/Electronics teams, perform design reviews, DRs and DFMEA, and help shape long-term roadmaps for automotive lighting technologies.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Electrical or Mechanical with lighting systems knowledge.
• Experience in automotive lighting design and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of ISO/TS standards for design and safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensure lighting system development for all projects and cross-functional coordination.
• Design lighting systems and parts (headlamp, tail lamp, indicators) per targets.
• Ensure compliance to regulatory norms.
• Coordinate with Electrical/Electronics teams to define interfaces.
• Layout and packaging of parts in vehicle from concept to final design.
• Conduct DR, FMEA and apply these tools in design phase.
• Define performance and reliability test parameters and procedures.
• Define DVP and ensure compliance.
• Monitor global lighting tech trends and develop long-term roadmaps.
• Benchmark and generate ideas for better performance, quality, cost, weight.
• Root cause analysis for quality issues and warranty using QC tools.

Qualifications

• B.E/ B Tech in Electrical or Mechanical, having thorough knowledge in lighting system and its application in automotive industry

Job Role & Responsibilities

• To ensure the Lighting system development for all projects & coordination with cross functional teams.
• Design lighting system and parts like headlamp, tail lamp, indictor lamps etc as per performance/ quality/ cost/ weight targets and ensure manufacturing requirements.
• Ensure compliance to regulatory norms.
• Coordinate with Electrical/electronics teams to define interface requirement.
• Layout and packaging of parts in vehicle from concept stage till final design, considering all functionality, manufacturability, cost & styling intent.
• Conduct DR, FMEA (system/ design) and apply all such tools in the design phase.
• Define performance and reliability test parameters, procedures for such parts.
• Define DVP and ensure compliance / completion.
• Keep track of global trends in relevant technology, regulations and develop long term road maps and appropriate work plan.
• Benchmarking and generation of ideas for better performance, quality, cost, weight.
• Root cause analysis for quality issues, warranty cases using QC tools and countermeasure action.

Competency Requirements

Technical/ Functional

• Proficient in all tools for lamps design, layout (lamp internal, vehicle side), optical design/ simulation and CAD tool, preferably Unigraphics.
• Thorough in fundamentals and design concepts for lighting, including all types of light globally for 2-4 Wheeler.
• Fully conversant with automotive industry standards and regulations, applicable globally for 2-4 Wheeler.
• Knowledge in ISO/ TS standards for design, environment, information security and functional safety.
• Exposure to lamps/ bulbs/ LED manufacturing and validation facilities, hands on testing/ test set-up experience.
• Knowledge of various Plastic materials for automotive lamps and their selection.
• Understanding of electronics, EVs would be an advantage.
