CDM Smith is seeking a process engineer to provide independent oversight and technical guidance on wastewater and water treatment systems design. The role covers process, mechanical, and hydraulic design for large projects with emphasis on P&ID development and control descriptions.
The candidate will develop design drawings, perform plant calculations, coordinate with equipment vendors, and contribute to technical memos and reports. Travel is minimal; strong communication is essential.
Working independently and provides oversight and technical guidance on Treatment systems design for wastewater or water facilities, and engineering designs of moderate to high complexity to meet client project requirements. Serving as process engineer to contribute to process and/or process mechanical and/or hydraulic design and supporting construction of water and wastewater infrastructure. Developing wastewater treatment plant designs including: developing process flow diagram; influent plant data collection and analysis; performing calculations (Plant water balance, plant loading, treatment unit sizing, aeration requirement related calculation); setting design criteria; coordinating with equipment vendors; assessing technology for project applicable recommendations; write technical memorandum and preliminary design reports; designing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID); and developing control descriptions and strategies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated design experience in the below-listed areas: Aerobic or anaerobic wastewater/sewage treatment, Plant hydraulics, Treatment plant design, Development of design drawings and specifications on large, complex, multi-discipline design projects.
Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

In addition, during employment individuals may be required by CDM Smith or a CDM Smith client to successfully complete additional background checks, including motor vehicle record as well as drug testing.
