Job Description – Engineering Manager (MERN Stack)

Location: Flexible / Hybrid (Mon–Fri)

Role Overview:

SolarSquare is looking for a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a team of full‑stack developers (SDE1 to SDE3). In this role, you’ll drive the technical strategy, system architecture, and execution excellence for our MERN stack platforms. You’ll combine hands‑on technical expertise with strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management to deliver scalable, secure, and high‑performing products.

As part of a fast‑paced startup environment, you will play a critical role in shaping SolarSquare’s technology roadmap while fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of full‑stack developers, fostering technical ownership and professional growth.
• Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for MERN stack‑based platforms.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business teams to align technical initiatives with business goals.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices across coding, testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployments.
• Implement and manage observability systems (logging, monitoring, alerting) to ensure reliability in production.
• Optimize system performance, scalability, and cloud infrastructure cost efficiency (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Manage technical debt while balancing long‑term engineering health with short‑term business priorities.
• Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent while creating growth opportunities for team members.
• Ensure compliance with security and data protection standards (e.g., OWASP, GDPR).
• Track delivery through clear metrics, setting expectations, and ensuring timely project execution.

Key Requirements:

• 8–12 years of experience in full‑stack development, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven expertise in the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js).
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and scalable architectures.
• Hands‑on experience designing and scaling high‑traffic web applications.
• Deep familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Proficiency with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to bridge technical and business needs.
• Track record of building and leading high‑performing engineering teams in agile environments.

Other Requirements:

• Experience with cost optimization, performance tuning, and security best practices in cloud‑native systems.
• Bonus: Prior experience in established product‑based companies or scaling teams in early‑stage startups.
• Exposure to designing systems from scratch in a high‑growth environment is highly desirable.
