Job description

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and technically strong Engineering Manager to join our growing technology team.

You will play a key role in driving the overall success of our technology and product engineering function by leading engineering teams, managing technical delivery, and ensuring the scalability, reliability, performance and quality of our consumer-facing products.

The role requires someone who can operate at the intersection of People, Product and Technology — translating business and product requirements into robust technical solutions while building and developing a high-performing engineering team.

You will be responsible for overseeing engineering projects, architecture and technical initiatives, processes, resources, budgets and timelines, while ensuring that our technology is capable of supporting a growing B2C user base and high-volume consumer applications.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineers across the complete software development lifecycle — from design and development through testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Own and drive engineering delivery in collaboration with Product, Design, Business and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Translate product and business requirements into clear technical plans, milestones and deliverables.
• Coordinate and direct multiple engineering projects, create detailed execution plans, manage dependencies and ensure timely delivery.
• Drive engineering best practices around code quality, architecture, scalability, security, observability and system reliability.
• Participate in and provide direction on system architecture, technology choices and product design decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned with the product roadmap.
• Ensure systems are designed to handle high concurrency, increasing user volumes, traffic spikes and transaction loads while maintaining performance and reliability.
• Identify and proactively address performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, technical debt and production risks.
• Work closely with DevOps / Infrastructure teams to ensure reliable CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, logging, alerting and production operations.
• Drive effective incident management, root-cause analysis and preventive actions for production issues.
• Identify opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies in customer-facing product features, improving customer experience, personalisation, automation and product capabilities.
• Drive the adoption of AI tools and workflows to improve engineering efficiency, including software development, code quality, testing, documentation, debugging, developer productivity and engineering processes.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify practical opportunities to improve both product capabilities and engineering productivity.
• Analyse technology and resource requirements, product demands and technical feasibility of proposed initiatives.
• Establish and track engineering metrics related to delivery, quality, system performance, reliability and team productivity.
• Recruit, mentor and develop engineers; assign and review work; manage performance; and build the technical capabilities of the team.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, experimentation, continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
• Partner with management and other functions to understand business priorities and translate them into actionable engineering initiatives.
• Manage engineering resources, budgets and external technology/vendor requirements where applicable.
• Review and approve technical solutions, product changes and engineering deliverables.
• Prepare and present engineering plans, technical proposals, project updates, risks and findings to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
• Set technical and engineering goals within the broader strategic direction provided by the leadership team.

Skill Sets / Experience We Require

• 8–10 years of overall software engineering experience, with 2–5 years of experience in an Engineering Manager, Engineering Lead or equivalent people-management role.
• Prior experience working in a product-based technology company, with ownership of consumer-facing technology products.
• Strong experience building and/or managing B2C applications/products, preferably with significant user volumes and transaction-intensive use cases.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, performance optimisation and reliability engineering.
• Demonstrated understanding of concurrency, high-throughput systems, traffic/load management and designing systems that can scale with growing users and demand.
• Good understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, deployment processes, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, logging, alerting and production operations.
• Strong understanding and practical fluency in AI and modern AI-enabled development, including the ability to identify and implement AI-led opportunities across both customer-facing product experiences and internal engineering workflows.
• Experience using or evaluating AI tools to improve developer productivity, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, knowledge management and engineering processes.
• Experience working closely with Product, Design and Business teams to translate requirements into scalable and commercially viable technology solutions.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to hire, manage, mentor and develop high-performing engineering teams.
