As Engineering Excellence Manager, you will raise the quality, consistency and repeatability of the industrial automation and control solutions we engineer for our customers. You will lead the engineering standards, design practices, trusted content and quality gates that our project teams work to, and you will hold the organisation accountable for applying them across process, discrete and hybrid engagements. Your remit covers engineering governance, design assurance, continuous improvement and technical competency development, so that every project starts from content rather than a blank page. You will have the Engineering Standards and Trusted Content, Design Assurance and Quality, Engineering Continuous Improvement, and Technical Competency and Training functions reporting to you. You will build a engineering chain, assuring the development of technical resources, and preparing the structure to support new delivery strategies as our automation and digital transformation portfolio grows. You will be responsible for resource development, with Engineering Domain Expertise Management. You will report to the Director of Engineering Delivery and have a hybrid schedule working in Pune, India.
Under your leadership, the following functions will have the following responsibilities –
Lead a team of Technical Leads and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across automation domains, providing direction, coaching, performance development, and succession planning to provide a strong and sustainable technical organisation. Establish clear ownership and accountability for domain expertise, ensuring that SMEs maintain deep technical knowledge aligned with current and latest technologies. Provide leadership and oversight to the Technical Lead and SME community, ensuring technical decision‑making, knowledge sharing, and understanding of engineering practices across projects, industries, and regions. Be a final escalation point for complex technical challenges and cross‑domain engineering decisions that require expert judgement and resolution.
This department will be responsible for governing the usage of Trusted Content and standard templates in project execution, and will be the focal point for resolving all critical engineering problems. It will define, publish and version‑control the engineering standards, design templates and reusable control libraries built on Logix controllers, FactoryTalk software and Rockwell Automation reference architectures, so that engineers across the region design from the same proven baseline.
This department will maintain engineering quality control by using our Global Quality Management System in the design and delivery of our projects and services. It will operate design reviews and quality gates across the full lifecycle, from functional design specification through factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing and handover, and will confirm that deliverables meet the applicable functional safety, cybersecurity and industry standards including IEC 61511, IEC 62443, ISA-88 and ISA‑95.
This department will help use Lean, Six Sigma, Agile and other quality methodologies within the engineering community. It will ensure that productivity projects are identified and executed through the year for measurable results, reducing engineering effort per deliverable without conceding quality. It will also introduce tooling that raises productivity, including configuration‑driven code generation, automated testing, emulation and disciplined version control, and will own the lessons‑learned process so that an issue surfaced on one project becomes standard practice on the next.
This function is responsible for managing the competency needs of the engineering organisation and for the programmes that feed it. It will maintain a competency framework covering process, discrete, hybrid, safety and information solutions disciplines with clear proficiency levels, run technical training, certification and mentoring from graduate trainee through to technical lead, and work with engineering managers to close skill gaps against the forward order book.
You will act as the senior technical authority for PLC, HMI, SCADA, drives, motion and safety applications, reviewing complex or high‑risk designs covering network topology, controller sizing, redundancy strategy, functional safety and industrial cybersecurity before they reach the customer. You will guide the adoption of Rockwell Automation platforms in delivery engagements, including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk Optix, PlantPAx and Emulate3D, support proposal engineering with technical solution reviews and estimating norms, and represent engineering quality in customer design reviews, audits and escalations. All the above roles will work with the relevant global teams to make this happen.
At Rockwell Automation we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right person for this or other roles.
Rockwell Automation’s hybrid policy aligns that employees are expected to work at a Rockwell location at least Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays unless they have a business obligation out of the office.
