Job summary

Talenttap Management Consultants in India seeks a packaging design engineer to drive vehicle packaging from concept to production, collaborating with local and global teams to meet product, process and performance targets.

You will lead CAD data management, tolerance analysis, and design rule compliance, coordinating with styling, manufacturing, serviceability and regulatory teams to deliver robust packaging solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lateral (Body side, Windshield and Roof)
• Geometry (Fit and Finish at Vehicle level, Part measurement points, Part gauge design and validation)
• Develop packaging layouts for new vehicles or vehicle derivatives.
• Ensure occupant space, comfort, visibility, and egress based on standards.
• Resolve packaging conflicts between components. (same zone as well as interzone)
• Support design feasibility, from concept through production.
• Interface with styling, manufacturing, serviceability, and regulatory teams.
• Product Development Preparation
• Prepare initial concept for vehicle layout.
• Prepare product development that outlines the basic idea, structure, and specifications of a component or product
• Conduct short loop studies to make decision matrix to get Project direction.
• Adhere to product development schedule.
• Prepare milestone synthesis and obtain Metier opinion before presenting to Project
• Design Validation & Interface Definition
• Converge interfaces between parts, subassemblies, and assemblies per design rules.
• Prepare part/assembly fixing concept with all degrees of freedom (3-2-1 principle).
• Establish cutlines between parts in alignment with styling and engineering teams.
• Integrate design intent with stakeholder agreement.
• CAD Data Management
• Prepare CAD data for all mockups as per project schedule.
• Prepare Master section & allocated volume
• Conduct CAD data maturity checks at each project milestone.
• Track and secure only functional holes in sheet metal parts.
• Validate parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies against design rules.
• Design Rule Compliance
• Justify and level all design rule deviations with experts.
• Define and take responsibility for common area parts packaging early in the project.
• Ensure future packaging protection is secured. Review existing designs to prevent recurrence of known issues.
• Innovation & Performance Alignment
• Follow Innovation( NDL )process for packaging related innovations.
• Initiate design reviews and converge with all stakeholders.
• Respect and align with all performance requirements (e.g., perceived quality, safety, NVH, ergonomics).
• Safety & Issue Resolution
• Prepare Safety Risk Control Demonstration File (valid for 35 years from Agreement to Market).
• Provide solutions for all physical phase design-related issues
• Tolerance & Fit-Finish
• Perform tolerance and stack-up analysis with suppliers and stakeholders.
• Prepare fit & finish drawings and converge with all stakeholders.
• Validate checking fixtures and ensure convergence with suppliers.
