About the Role
We are looking for a hands‑on and process‑driven Engineer for Transmission and Engine Assembly Production Operations at our Oragadam plant. The role is responsible for achieving production targets, ensuring first‑time‑right quality, managing shop floor operations, and driving continuous improvement in transmission assembly, engine assembly, and sub‑assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Quality
- Achieve daily and monthly production targets on transmission and engine assembly lines
- Ensure component/engine roll‑out with targeted FTT (First Time Through)
- Adhere to and sustain high standard process and product quality
- Analyze quality issues, identify root causes, and implement effective countermeasures
- Upkeep Quality Management Systems IATF, OHSAS, EMS
- Ensure 5S standards and discipline on shop floor at all times
Shop Floor & Manpower Management
- Manage and plan manpower for transmission and engine assembly operations
- Train and guide blue collar associates and operators
- Optimize utilization of men, tightening tools, and equipment
- Maintain production tools and equipment as per maintenance schedule
Transmission Assembly Specific
- Hands‑on execution of transmission and gearbox assembly processes
- Handle tightening tools and torque management for transmission components
- Monitor and ensure quality of sub‑assembly gearbox, shafts, bearings
- Apply knowledge of scheduling and sequencing for transmission assembly
Engine Assembly Specific
- Hands‑on execution of engine assembly and sub‑assembly processes
- Knowledge of engine components — machining, torquing, sealing, testing
- Troubleshooting experience in engine assembly process
- Support engine testing and validation activities
Productivity & Continuous Improvement
- Implement new techniques to improve productivity on transmission and engine assembly lines
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in assembly and sub‑assembly
- Drive Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives
- Apply Lean manufacturing — TPS, Six Sigma concepts on shop floor
- Apply VSM and digitalization techniques for process improvement
Scheduling & Systems
- Apply knowledge of scheduling and sequencing for assembly operations
- Work with Manufacturing Execution Systems — SAP or MES
- Monitor plan vs actual and take corrective actions
- Prepare daily production reports and escalates issues to management
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Hands‑on experience in transmission / gearbox assembly OR engine assembly
- Knowledge of powertrain components — torquing, sealing, testing, sub‑assembly
- Knowledge of tightening tools, torque management, and equipment maintenance
- Troubleshooting experience in transmission or engine assembly process
- Familiarity with IATF, OHSAS, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing
- Knowledge of TPS, Six Sigma, and VSM concepts
- Exposure to SAP or MES systems on shop floor
- Knowledge of scheduling and sequencing for assembly operations
