Job summary

Eppinger Tooling Asia seeks an Engineer/Sr Engineer - Vendor Development to build and qualify supplier networks for precision machining, casting, forging, fabrication and assembly.

You will audit suppliers, review drawings, drive cost and quality improvements, and support RFQ, prototype, and production launches across India. 7–13 years in supplier quality or vendor development is preferred; BE/B.Tech in mechanical is desired.

Qualifications

• 7-13 years of experience in Supplier Quality, Vendor Development, or Manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of machining, casting, forging, fabrication, assembly, and quality systems.
• BE/B.Tech/ Diploma in Mechanical or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and capability.
• Conduct supplier audits, process capability studies, and vendor assessments to ensure standards.
• Review drawings, GD&T, material requirements, and customer-specific requirements.
• Drive supplier quality improvements to achieve targets for quality, delivery, and productivity.
• Support RFQ and technical feasibility evaluations; coordinate prototype and pilot production development.
• Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and conduct periodic supplier reviews.
• Conduct cost analysis of machined components and benchmark prices.

Job description

Position : Engineer / Sr Engineer - Vendor Development

Role & responsibilities

1. Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and manufacturing capability requirements.
2. Conduct supplier audits, process capability studies, and vendor assessments to ensure compliance with company standards.
3. Assess supplier expertise in machining, casting, forging, fabrication, assembly, and related manufacturing processes.
4. Review Engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, material requirements, and customer-specific requirements.
5. Evaluate supplier capability against component tolerances and process requirements.
6. Assess CNC machines, tooling, fixtures, gauges, inspection equipment, and manufacturing processes. CNC Turning / CNC Milling / VMC / HMC
7. Drive supplier quality improvement initiatives to achieve quality, delivery, and productivity targets.
8. Resolve supplier issues related to drawings, specifications, process changes, and product quality.
9. Coordinate supplier development activities for new products and engineering changes.
10. Support RFQ and technical feasibility evaluation.
11. Coordinate prototype, sample, and pilot production development.
12. Develop and maintain supplier performance scorecards and conduct periodic supplier reviews.
13. Conduct cost analysis of machined components.
14. Benchmark supplier prices and manufacturing costs.
15. Analyse: Material cost, Machine-hour cost, Cycle time, Tooling cost, Setup cost, Labour cost, Overheads, Rejection / rework, Secondary process costs
16. Work closely with suppliers to improve Productivity, Cycle time, Yield, OEE, Tool life, Material utilization, Machine capacity, Rejection and rework
17. Drive continuous improvement projects with key suppliers.
18. Promote automation, poka-yoke, process optimization, and lean manufacturing practices.
19. Work with Supplier Quality / Quality Assurance teams to resolve supplier quality issues.
20. Monitor supplier rejection, PPM, rework, customer complaints, and corrective actions.
21. Use tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, SPC, MSA, and Pareto analysis for problem solving.
22. Ensure effective implementation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
23. Participate in supplier quality audits and periodic supplier evaluations.

Required Technical Competencies

1. Strong knowledge of precision machining processes.
2. Good understanding of CNC turning, milling, VMC, HMC, grinding, and related processes.
3. Knowledge of CNC machine capabilities and process parameters.
4. Understanding of cutting tools, tool life, tooling selection, and machining economics.
5. Good knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawings.
6. Knowledge of measurement systems and precision inspection.
7. Understanding of CMM, height gauge, profile projector, bore gauge, roundness, surface roughness, etc.
8. Knowledge of materials commonly used in precision engineering.
9. Understanding of heat treatment and surface treatment processes.
10. Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and SPC is desirable.
11. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Kaizen
12. Ability to perform technical and cost feasibility studies.

Desired Candidate Profile

• BE/ B.Tech/ Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
• 7-13 years of experience in Supplier Quality, Vendor Development, or Manufacturing
