Job summary

Micron Technology’s SSD Engineering Group is expanding to validate firmware for a brand-new storage controller build, interfacing with architecture, hardware, firmware, and test teams across geographies. You will craft test plans and automation scripts, run tests in a firmware CI with simulation and FPGA, and help isolate issues while prioritizing failures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with embedded firmware validation and hardware familiarity is essential.
  • Strong scripting and Python programming capabilities for automation and testing.
  • Familiarity with storage technology (SSD/HDD) and interfaces (PCIe/NVMe/SATA/SAS).
  • Experience with NAND flash and non-volatile storage domains.
  • Knowledge of I2C, SPI, SMBUS protocols is desirable.
  • Experience with Jenkins or similar CI tools.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience using AI-powered tools to enhance engineering productivity and automation.

Responsibilities And Tasks

You will be responsible for working as part of a team validating the firmware being developed for a brand new storage controller build. You will interact with the architecture, hardware, firmware, and firmware test teams located in multiple geographies to gain a full understanding of the firmware composition.

You will apply your knowledge of firmware build to define test plans and develop automated test scripts using industry-standard and internal test tools and platforms. You will coordinate the running of automated tests within a firmware continuous integration environment that uses software simulation and an FPGA platform. You will prioritize failures, submit bug reports, and support development teams in isolating issues.

Furthermore, you will identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency, test coverage, and productivity through AI‑enabled ways of working. You will leverage approved AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, and other Micron‑supported AI solutions to accelerate test development, automate analysis and reporting, improve debugging workflows, and generate insights from validation data. You will apply AI responsibly and securely in accordance with Micron’s AI governance and appropriate-use guidelines while continuously exploring new AI-driven approaches to enhance engineering effectiveness.

Experience / Skills
  • Knowledge and extensive experience with embedded firmware validation
  • Expertise in the use of scripting languages, programming tools, and environments
  • Extensive programming experience in Python
  • Experience in the storage industry in SSD, HDD, storage systems, or a related technology
  • Understanding of storage interfaces including ideally PCIe/NVMe, SATA, or SAS
  • Experience with NAND flash and other non‑volatile storage
  • Working experience on I2C, SPI, and SMBUS protocols is desirable
  • Good to have knowledge on Jenkins
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal daily oversight
  • Capacity to operate in a cross‑functional team environment while managing several priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI‑powered tools and assistants (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent technologies) to enhance engineering productivity, software development, automation, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Understanding of AI‑enabled ways of working, including effective prompting, AI‑assisted problem solving, and automation of engineering workflows.
  • Ability to evaluate AI‑generated outputs, apply human judgment and validation, and use AI solutions responsibly in accordance with Micron policies and governance requirements.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development of AI proficiency to support Micron’s AI transformation initiatives.

Education & Experience

Position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, along with knowledge of hardware.
