We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Architect to own the technical architecture for regulated medical device software across the Sleep & Respiratory Care portfolio. This role sits at the center of our engineering organization — defining architecture and design for therapy devices, ventilators and connected-care platforms, and ensuring that what we build is safe, secure, compliant and sustainable. You will operate as a hands‑on technical authority: making design decisions, resolving complex technical risks, mentoring engineers, and representing software architecture in cross‑functional and regulatory forums. This is a role for someone who wants deep technical ownership of products that directly improve patients' ability to breathe and sleep.
Technical Skills: Deep expertise in C++(preferred) / C / Embedded C; strong grasp of real‑time and resource‑constrained design. RTOS concepts, scheduling, concurrency, task frameworks, memory and power optimisation. Microcontroller/SoC platforms (e.g. ARM Cortex‑M / STM32 class), board bring‑up and hardware‑software integration. Communication protocols and connectivity — BLE/Bluetooth, cellular/modem, UART/SPI/I2C, and secure firmware update mechanisms. Software architecture practice — modelling, design patterns, interface design, modularity and platform thinking. Verification fundamentals: unit verification, static analysis, code coverage, test automation and CI/CD (ADO / GitHub). Cybersecurity for embedded/connected devices: threat modelling, cryptography fundamentals, secure boot and signed updates.
Define, document and govern the software architecture for assigned products and platforms, including decomposition, interfaces, data flows and deployment topology. Produce and maintain architecture artefacts — SAD, SDD, interface specifications and design rationale — to regulated standards. Drive architectural decisions on real‑time behaviour, memory and power constraints, connectivity (BLE/cellular/modem), and hardware‑software integration. Lead design reviews, technical risk assessments and trade‑off analyses; ensure decisions are recorded with clear rationale. Evaluate and drive modernisation, refactoring and reuse across platforms to reduce duplication and improve maintainability.
Ensure architecture and design comply with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 (risk management) and applicable EU MDR / FDA requirements. Own end‑to‑end requirement‑to‑test traceability for assigned areas, ensuring design elements trace to requirements and verification evidence. Contribute to software safety classification, hazard analysis, FMEA and risk‑control design. Support CAPA, CAP and DCR activities with root‑cause analysis, impact assessment and design remediation. Ensure adherence to internal QMS processes and design‑history‑file completeness.
Embed secure‑by‑design principles into architecture; support threat modelling and security risk assessment. Own architecture‑level inputs to SBOM, SOUP/OTS assessment, VAR and vulnerability remediation. Champion secure SDLC adoption within the engineering teams.
Partner with Engineering Managers on technical feasibility, effort estimation, sequencing and resource planning. Represent software architecture with cross‑functional partners — Systems, Quality, Regulatory, Product, PMO, Security, Operations and Manufacturing. Surface technical risks, dependencies and decision points early, with proposed solutions rather than escalations alone. Provide technical input into release planning, Release Train cadence and sprint execution within an Agile/ADO way of working.
Mentor and coach engineers; act as buddy/mentor within the competency ramp‑up framework and support progression toward independent (L2) execution. Lead knowledge‑transfer for products transitioning ownership into the India organisation. Drive engineering excellence: code quality, design standards, review discipline, static analysis and unit‑verification rigour. Champion AI‑assisted engineering (e.g. GitHub Copilot across the V‑model) to improve productivity without compromising quality or compliance. Contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions, technical forums and reusable engineering assets.
