Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Electronics Commodity Manager / Strategic Sourcing Manager to lead strategic procurement, cost optimization and supplier development for automotive electronics.
The role will focus on electronic components, semiconductors, bare PCBs and PCB Assembly (PCBA/EMS), with responsibility for achieving competitive costs, ensuring supply continuity and developing reliable alternate sources.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electronic Components & Semiconductor Sourcing
- Manage sourcing and commercial negotiations for MCUs, semiconductors, MOSFETs, ICs, passives, connectors and other electronic components.
- Benchmark component pricing across manufacturers, distributors and EMS suppliers.
- Maintain component pricing history and identify Purchase Price Variances (PPV).
- Develop alternate sources in collaboration with Engineering and Quality teams.
- Monitor lead times, shortages, allocation constraints, PCNs and EOL risks.
- Drive cost reduction through supplier negotiations, VA/VE and alternate sourcing.
2. Bare PCB & EMS / PCBA Sourcing
- Source and negotiate automotive-grade bare PCBs and PCB assembly/EMS services.
- Develop capable suppliers in India and international markets, including alternatives to China.
- Understand PCB cost drivers, import duties and applicable anti-dumping implications.
- Benchmark SMT, AOI, ICT, Functional Testing and EOL conversion costs.
- Evaluate suppliers on capability, quality, traceability, capacity, technology and commercial competitiveness.
- Develop a robust and diversified supplier base to improve supply security.
3. Make-vs-Buy / Insourcing Analysis
- Develop detailed PCBA conversion-cost and should-cost models.
- Validate SMT line capacity, equipment requirements, manpower and shift structure.
- Evaluate CAPEX, capacity utilization, yield, scrap, maintenance, consumables and overheads.
- Calculate realistic cost per PCB, ROI, payback period and volume sensitivity.
- Compare external supplier pricing with internal manufacturing economics.
- Prepare business cases and recommendations for make-vs-buy/insourcing decisions.
Candidate Profile
- 8 to 15 years of experience in electronics procurement, strategic sourcing, commodity management or electronics manufacturing.
- Preferred experience in Automotive Tier-1, EMS, electronics manufacturing or strategic electronics sourcing.
- Strong understanding of electronic components and semiconductor procurement.
- Established supplier network across electronic components, bare PCBs and/or EMS/PCBA.
- Strong BOM-level cost analysis and supplier benchmarking capability.
- Experience in international supplier development and sourcing.
- Practical understanding of SMT / PCBA manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience in make-vs-buy or insourcing business cases.
- Strong commercial negotiation, analytical and Excel/data-analysis skills.
- Ability to work closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Finance teams.
