The Draftsman will produce detailed drawings, specs, and models to support mass production, working with Product Development in Canada and overseas partners to meet design intent and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or related
  • 3–5 years in industrial design focusing on technical drawing and manufacturing
  • Furniture industry experience required

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain detailed technical drawings and manufacturing specifications for furniture products.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturing, assembly, cost, and logistics.
  • Collaborate with local manufacturing partners to ensure design accuracy and resolve production challenges.
  • Refine designs based on feedback, material constraints, production capabilities, and cost targets.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, manufacturing tolerances, and quality control requirements.
  • Update technical documentation to reflect changes in design, materials, or processes.
  • Maintain accurate sample status reports and proactively follow up with factories to prevent delays.
  • Drive sample development from technical drawings through final execution and production readiness.
  • Work closely with overseas factories to ensure materials and finishes align with approved swatches and specifications.
  • Conduct factory visits, when required, to review samples and ensure final product integrity.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Job Summary

The Draftsman is responsible for translating conceptual designs into fully manufacturable products. The ideal candidate is highly detail‑oriented, technically strong, and experienced in developing accurate drawings, specifications, and models that support efficient, cost‑effective mass production. Working closely with the Product Development team in Canada and overseas manufacturing partners, the Industrial Designer ensures that design intent, quality, aesthetics, and commercial objectives are achieved throughout the development process.

About The Role
  • Develop, review, and maintain detailed technical drawings, 2D and 3D CAD models, and manufacturing specifications for furniture products.
  • Partner closely with the Product Development team to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, cost, and logistics.
  • Collaborate with local manufacturing partners to ensure accurate design execution and resolve technical or production‑related challenges.
  • Refine and adjust designs based on manufacturer feedback, material constraints, production capabilities, and cost targets while maintaining design intent.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, manufacturing tolerances, and quality control requirements.
  • Update technical documentation to reflect changes in design, materials, or manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date sample status reports and proactively follow up with factories to prevent delays.

Let's Talk About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial design with a strong focus on technical drawing and manufacturing; furniture industry experience required.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar, as well as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Solid understanding of furniture materials, construction methods, and manufacturing processes (wood, metal, upholstery).
  • Demonstrated ability to produce detailed production drawings, prototypes, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced development environment.
  • A keen eye for detail, proportion, and quality—paired with a practical, production‑minded approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with international teams and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
