Job summary

ENGIE India in Pune seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead HV/EHV substation and transmission line design from pre-bid through execution. You will prepare diagrams, protection schemes, and electrical calculations, and coordinate with procurement, construction, and O&M teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in HV/EHV substation design and detail engineering.
  • Knowledge of ETAP or PowerFactory for load flow and short-circuit analysis.
  • Experience negotiating with suppliers and EPC contractors.
  • Experience performing factory audits and FAT inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee design and engineering of 33/132/220/400 kV substations and transmission lines from pre-bid through execution.
  • Prepare and review single line diagrams, protection and metering schemes, layouts, and electrical calculations.
  • Manage engineering work packages across multiple projects and define tech configurations and QA requirements.
  • Develop tender documents and owner's technical specifications for critical electrical equipment.
  • Review OEM drawings, datasheets, and QA plans for transformers, CTs, PTs, breakers, and control panels.
  • Lead FATs and vendor evaluations to ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NFPA standards and grid codes.
  • Collaborate with procurement, construction, commissioning, and O&M teams to propose design optimizations.

Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer – HV/EHV Substations & Transmission Lines

What You'll Do
  • Oversee the design and engineering of 33/132/220/400 kV substations and transmission lines from pre-bid through execution, ensuring technical viability and construction support.
  • Prepare and review single line diagrams, protection and metering schemes, layouts, and electrical calculations including load flow, short circuit, earthing, and lightning protection.
  • Manage engineering work packages across multiple projects, defining technology choices, technical configurations, and performance, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Develop tender documents, owner's technical specifications, and request-for-purchase packages for critical electrical equipment.
  • Review OEM vendor drawings, datasheets, general arrangements, and quality assurance plans for power transformers, CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, and control relay panels.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Tests for critical equipment and conduct vendor evaluations to ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NFPA standards and grid codes such as SEC, TRANSCO, and CEA.
  • Collaborate with procurement, construction, commissioning, and O&M teams to propose design optimizations, resolve technical queries, and capture lessons learned across all ENGIE sites.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in power generation, oil and gas, or equivalent sectors with a focus on HV/EHV substation design and detail engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of power system design tools such as ETAP or PowerFactory for load flow, short circuit analysis, and relay coordination studies.
  • Proven experience in technical negotiations with suppliers and EPC contractors.
  • Track record of performing factory audits and FAT inspections for electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA) and regional grid regulations.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to mentor cross-functional teams and drive innovation. Exposure to AI tools and open-source models is advantageous.
