Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Lead Engineer for the Transmission & Distribution team in India. The successful candidate will act as a senior technical resource, providing specialized input to studies, and leading engineering teams in the design of Grid Substations.

With an expectation of 8-12 years of relevant experience, the ideal candidate will have a Master of Engineering degree and demonstrate expertise in HV Plant Design and electrical systems.

Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of work experience preferred.
  • Prior experience leading large design engineering teams.
  • Mandatory experience with HV Plant Design for large EHV Grid Substations.
  • Chartership with IET-UK, EA or equivalent desirable.

Lead Engineer – Secondary Substation

Transmission & Distribution team – India (Hybrid)

Responsibilities
  • Act as senior technical resource and serve as technical advisor for the team.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for the team’s area of expertise.
  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high‑quality, cost‑effective work by others.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimate technical efforts for projects.
  • Use expertise in all steps of completing the discipline component of the PS&E package.
  • Perform quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Provide input to the development of engineering budgets and schedules to meet requirements.
  • Design and modify electrical and electronic circuits, systems, and equipment, including installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of power systems, electronic and transmission equipment, electric service and supply systems, lighting systems, communication service and supply systems, fire alarm and detection systems, control systems, or electrical installations.
  • Design, maintain, and improve large‑scale electrical products such as motor control, power transmission, and electronic devices.
Qualifications
  • Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • 8–12 years of work experience (preferred).
  • Prior experience leading large design engineering teams performing Grid Substation design in a global consultancy firm (preferred).
  • Mandatory experience with HV Plant Design for large EHV Grid Substations.
  • High desirability for experience in design teams for Grid Utilities (e.g., National Grid, Transgrid, Powergrid).
  • Experience in preparing Substation Protection and Control Scheme drawings, relay coordination and settings, Panel GA drawings, Substation SCADA, and communication protocols (preferred).
  • Exposure to international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards, Middle East region codes) (preferred).
  • Experience leading large teams and interacting with clients independently.
  • Preferable experience with GIS and AIS EHV substation HV Plant Secondary design.
  • Chartership with IET‑UK, EA or equivalent (desirable).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (mandatory).
