Job description

District Lead – Economic Inclusion Program in Ranchi | The/Nudge Institute

Ranchi, Jharkhand full-time mid level Competitive

The/Nudge Institute

The/Nudge Institute is an action institute working to build resilient livelihoods and end poverty in India. It works with women, farmers, tribal communities and young people across rural development, agriculture, skilling and economic inclusion, in partnership with more than 15 central and state governments. Its economic inclusion work spans 10 states and currently reaches over 1.5 million people, on the way to a goal of serving 25 million Indians. Through its incubator, accelerator and grand challenges, The/Nudge has supported more than 200 social entrepreneurs, including Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees and Earthshot Prize winners. It was founded with the support of 130+ philanthropists, 40+ corporates and 15+ foundations. This role sits within The/Nudge's Economic Inclusion Program, which helps households in extreme vulnerability move out of poverty through a sequenced model of cash transfer and care.

Role

The/Nudge works in strategic partnership with Palash (Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society), Government of Jharkhand, to run Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana (JH-SAY), reaching 16,000 multidimensional poor households across 6 districts and 11 blocks. A State Project Management Unit sits at the JSLPS state office to design and run the programme. The District Lead is placed in one of the project districts, looks after 3 to 4 blocks, and reports to the Program Lead for JH-SAY. The work is to make sure the programme actually lands well on the ground: on time, at good quality, and with the district and block government teams moving together.

Responsibilities
  • Lead delivery of all project activities in the district in line with the approved Project Implementation Plan, Standard Operating Procedure, Package of Practice and Community Operational Manual.
  • Support the district on work under the PVTG domain.
  • Coordinate with the District Mission Management Unit and Block Mission Management Unit to keep implementation running smoothly.
  • Organise and facilitate capacity building training for the project team and for community members.
  • Plan and lead project events at district and regional level.
  • Support field visits by government officials and visiting dignitaries.
  • Ensure project activities are planned and completed on time.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting to the district and state offices.
  • Facilitate timely collection, entry, processing and reporting of project data.
  • Support and carry out monitoring and evaluation of the project.
  • Build and hold strong relationships with stakeholders at the grassroots level.
  • Practise the values of The/Nudge Institute and Palash (JSLPS) in daily work.
Requirements
  • A graduate degree is required; a post-graduate degree is preferred.
  • The degree should be in a relevant stream such as rural development, rural management, agriculture, forestry, social work or anthropology.
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in the development sector.
  • Experience on rural development, poverty eradication, livelihood promotion or tribal development projects.
  • Experience in a district level position with the National Rural Livelihood Mission or a State Rural Livelihood Mission is preferred.
  • Background in institution building, capacity building, social inclusion, social development or livelihood promotion is preferred.
  • Your own two-wheeler with a valid driving licence, as this is a field job.
  • Willingness to be based in a project district in Jharkhand and travel regularly across 3 to 4 blocks.
  • Comfort working alongside government teams at district and block level.
  • Ability to run training sessions for project staff and for community members.
  • Care with documentation, reporting and data entry.
  • Ability to work with rural communities in the language they speak.
  • Organised, able to hold timelines across several blocks at the same time.
  • Own your growth: a learning environment with an L&D wallet, an individual development plan and internal role change opportunities.
  • Find your tribe: hiring emphasises intent, attitude, smarts and skills, in that order, and people-centric policies shape daily life at The/Nudge.
  • Take big bets: work that reaches 50,000+ households, 15+ governments and 200+ social enterprises, alongside Charcha, India's largest social sector convening forum.
  • Make it happen: an action-biased environment where teams are backed to try ambitious plans and learn fast from what does not work.
