Job summary

Amadeus in Bengaluru seeks a Director of Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams across delivery areas including Commercial, Retailing, Customer Experience, and Airline Operations & Infrastructure. Define metrics, drive CI/CD, promote test automation, and align with architects on design decisions.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership overseeing large distributed teams.
• Experience in travel or airline digital platform delivery preferred.
• Strong knowledge of front-end (Angular/React), mobile (Kotlin/Swift), backend (NestJS/.NET), messaging systems, and cloud environments such as Azure.
• SAFe certification preferred (Program Consultant, Release Train Engineer, or Solution Train Engineer).
• Track record in building or scaling engineering teams or delivery centres.
• Strong communication skills and experience in complex, multi-site environments.
• Ability to guide teams through evolving priorities and organisational change.

• Support onboarding and growth, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of quality and ownership.
• Collaborate with product leadership on roadmap and capacity, report progress and risks to senior stakeholders.

Director, Engineering

Main Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership & Delivery Lead multiple engineering teams across delivery areas including Commercial, Retailing (Nevio), Customer Experience, and Airline Operations & Infrastructure. Ensure delivery quality and maintain high engineering standards across all squads.
• Define and monitor key engineering metrics, such as defect rates, deployment frequency, lead time, and DORA (DevOps Research and Assessment) metrics.
• Drive continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, enhance test automation, and foster consistent code review processes.
• Promote effective technical documentation and knowledge sharing across teams.
• Agile Release Train (ART) Engineering Leadership Serve as the main engineering representative for the SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) Agile Release Train. Collaborate with the Release Train Engineer on Program Increment (PI) planning, system demonstrations, and improvement sessions.
• Align with Solution Architects and Technical Leads on technical dependencies and design decisions.
• Enable all squads to deliver successfully against their PI objectives.
• Knowledge Acquisition & Transition Lead knowledge transfer from incumbent providers, including reviewing code, architecture, and addressing technical debt.
• Establish strong development foundations such as environments, branching strategies, and automated deployment pipelines.
• Develop onboarding practices to support upcoming growth in team size.
• People & Organisation Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering talent across internal teams and external hires. Encourage cross-site collaboration between global delivery teams.
• Support career growth through structured feedback, performance reviews, and clear development opportunities. Build a culture of quality, ownership, and continual learning.
• Stakeholder & Result Leadership Collaborate with product leadership on roadmap and capacity plans. Report progress, risks, and delivery metrics to senior stakeholders.
• Manage engineering budgets, resource plans, and ensure alignment with long-term technology strategies. Assess and mitigate risks related to technology, dependencies, and resource planning.
• Thought Leadership Act as a trusted technical advisor for stakeholders across business and technology domains. Contribute to the definition and execution of technical and functional strategies.
• Support timely, collaborative decision-making with an emphasis on risk awareness. Promote a culture of engineering excellence and scaled agile practices within and across teams.

Required Profile
