Job summary

Daimler Truck India is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for heavy-duty chassis design at SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre, Oragadam, Chennai. You will design frame attachments, RUPD and SUPD compliance, and modular solutions across Mercedes-Benz and BharatBenz platforms.

Qualifications

• Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicle Chassis Design and 3 to 10 year of experience.
• Structural Design of Safety Components.
• RUPD & SUPD Regulations (UNECE R58 & R73).
• Tow Hook & Recovery Load Design.
• Welded and Bolted Joint Design.
• High-Strength Steel Applications.
• GD&T and Engineering Drawings.
• DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP.
• Cost Optimization and Value Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop frame attachments like fenders, brackets, fifth wheel coupling, and mounting structures.
• Develop modular solutions compatible with Mercedes-Benz and BharatBenz platforms.
• Define packaging concepts considering frame architecture, axle configurations and body builder needs.
• Ensure compliance with UNECE R58, R73 and regional requirements.
• Perform static, dynamic, fatigue, corrosion, and vehicle integration analyses.
• Weight reduction and cost efficiency across platforms.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
• Collaborate with global engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, homologation and testing teams.
• Support prototype builds, validation, homologation, and production launch.
• Investigate field failures and drive corrective actions.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop:

• Frame attachments like fender, fender brackets, accessory brackets
  • Fifth wheel coupling
  • Catwalk platform
  • HV safety components positioning and mounting
  • Rear Underrun Protection Device (RUPD)
  • Side Underrun Protection Device (SUPD)
  • Front and Rear Tow Hooks
  • Mounting brackets and reinforcement structures
  • Recovery interfaces and associated frame attachments
• Develop modular solutions compatible with multiple Mercedes-Benz and BharatBenz vehicle platforms.
• Define packaging concepts considering:
  • Frame architecture & Rear overhang
  • Axle configurations & Suspension movement
  • Body builder requirements
• Ensure compliance with global regulations and standards, including:
  • UNECE R58 (Rear Underrun Protection)
  • UNECE R73 (Side Underrun Protection)
  • Regional homologation and customer-specific requirements
• Perform structural assessments for:
  • Static strength & Dynamic loading
  • Recovery and towing loads
  • Fatigue durability
  • Corrosion performance
  • Vehicle integration
