Job summary

Vizous Interio in Bhubaneswar invites an experienced Design & Estimation Manager to lead modular furniture projects. You will review client drawings, develop design concepts, and prepare detailed layouts and documentation for manufacturing and installation.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in modular furniture or interior manufacturing, with 2–3 years in a supervisory role. You will drive cost estimation, tender support, and site coordination in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Furniture Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5-10 years of relevant experience in modular furniture, interior manufacturing, joinery, or related fields.
• Minimum 2-3 years in a supervisory/managerial role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings and client briefs; develop modular furniture concepts and interior designs.
• Prepare detailed drawings, elevations, sections, and construction docs with manufacturing in mind.
• Handle BOQs, quantity take-offs, material estimates, and cost calculations.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, and internal teams to resolve design issues early.
• Support tendering with technical inputs and value-engineering options for competitive quotations.
• Coordinate with production, CNC, edge-banding, finishing, and installation teams.
• Monitor cost vs. estimate, update costing templates, and drive process improvements.

Job description

Designation: Design & Estimation Manager (Modular furniture, Doors, Windows & Interior)

Role & responsibilities:

1. Design Management

• Review architectural, interior, furniture, and MEP drawings received from clients/designers.
• Develop and review modular furniture and interior design concepts based on project requirements.
• Prepare/review furniture layouts, detailed drawings, elevations, sections, and construction details.
• Ensure designs are practical for manufacturing, installation, transportation, and site conditions.
• Select suitable materials, hardware, finishes, accessories, and construction methods.
• Coordinate design revisions with clients, architects, consultants, and internal teams.
• Identify design conflicts, technical constraints, and constructability issues at an early stage.

2. Estimation & Costing

• Prepare detailed BOQs, quantity take-offs, material requirements, and cost estimates.
• Estimate quantities for plywood/MDF/particle board, laminates, veneers, acrylics, glass, hardware, profiles, upholstery, solid surfaces, etc.
• Calculate material consumption, wastage, labour, machine processing, hardware, finishing, packing, transportation, installation, and other project costs.
• Obtain and compare supplier/subcontractor rates.
• Maintain updated rate databases for materials, hardware, labour, and services.
• Prepare project-wise cost sheets and ensure estimation accuracy.
• Identify cost variations and major cost drivers.

3. Tender & Quotation Support

• Study RFQs, BOQs, drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
• Prepare technical and commercial inputs for quotations.
• Develop competitive pricing while protecting project margins.
• Prepare alternate specifications and value-engineering options where required.
• Highlight exclusions, assumptions, deviations, and commercial risks in quotations.
• Support the sales/business-development team during technical discussions and negotiations.

4. Manufacturing & Production Coordination

• Coordinate with production, CNC, edge-banding, finishing, assembly, and installation teams.
• Ensure proposed designs are aligned with available machinery, manufacturing processes, and production capacity.
• Resolve technical queries related to drawings, materials, hardware, and construction.
• Support preparation/review of production drawings and cutting requirements.

5. Project & Site Coordination

• Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, designers, vendors, and installation teams.
• Conduct/participate in site measurements and technical inspections when required.
• Validate site dimensions against drawings before production.

6. Cost Control & Process Improvement

• Compare estimated cost versus actual project cost and identify variances.
• Maintain historical project costing data for future estimates.
• Develop standard costing templates and estimation methodologies.
• Improve estimation accuracy, turnaround time, and material optimization.

7. Team Management

• Lead and mentor designers, draftsmen, estimators, and junior estimation staff.
• Allocate estimation/design work according to project priorities.
• Review drawings, BOQs, and estimates prepared by team members.
• Establish quality and accuracy standards.

Job Specification:

Educational Qualification

• Diploma/Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Furniture Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

• 5-10 years of relevant experience in modular furniture, interior manufacturing, joinery, retail fit-outs, office furniture, residential interiors, hospitality projects, or similar industries.
• Minimum 2-3 years in a supervisory/managerial role preferred.
• Experience handling projects from design/BOQ stage through estimation and production coordination is highly desirable.

Technical Knowledge

The candidate should have strong knowledge of:

• Modular kitchen and wardrobe systems
• Office furniture and workstation systems
• Residential and commercial furniture
• Custom-made furniture and joinery
• Interior fit-out materials and construction
• Plywood, MDF, HDF, particle board, laminates, veneers, acrylic, PVC, etc.
• Furniture hardware and accessories
• Hinges, drawer systems, channels, lift-up systems, connectors, fasteners, etc.
• Glass, aluminium, profiles, solid surfaces, metalwork and upholstery
• CNC, cutting, edge-banding, drilling, routing and assembly processes

Skills:
