Job summary

Vizous Interio in Bhubaneswar seeks a Design Head to lead modular furniture and interior design, estimation and production handover. You will guide the design and estimation team, develop production-ready concepts, and ensure commercial viability across projects.

Role requires 7-12 years in modular furniture and interior design, with leadership experience and strong command of AutoCAD, 3ds Max/Revit and MS Excel. Immediate joiner preferred; on-site role in Bhubaneswar.

Design Head (Modular Furniture & Interior)

Reporting To: Director

1. Job Purpose

To lead the company's modular furniture and interior design function, ensuring high-quality, commercially viable and production-ready designs along with accurate estimation, BOQ preparation, costing, rate analysis and quotations.

The Design Head will be responsible for managing the complete design and estimation process from understanding client requirements through final design approval and handover to production/execution.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Design Leadership

• Lead and manage the Design & Estimation team.
• Develop innovative and practical designs for modular furniture and interior projects.
• Review and approve design concepts, layouts, elevations, sections, details and working drawings.
• Ensure designs are aesthetically appealing, functional and commercially viable.
• Standardize design processes, drawing formats and documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with client requirements, site conditions and technical specifications.
• Review design drawings before submission to clients/production.

B. Modular Furniture Design

Handle design requirements for:

• Modular kitchens, Wardrobes, TV units, Crockery units
• Storage systems, Bedroom furniture, Office furniture
• Reception and workstation furniture
• Custom-made furniture
• Commercial and residential modular furniture

Ensure proper understanding of:

• Board/material specifications, Laminates and finishes, Edge banding
• Plywood/MDF/HDF/particle board and other furniture boards
• Laminates, acrylic, PU, veneer and other finishes
• Modular furniture hardware, Hinges, channels, baskets, lifts and accessories
• Kitchen and wardrobe systems, Office furniture
• Custom furniture, Interior finishing materials

C. Interior Design

• Develop interior concepts based on client requirements and budget.
• Prepare space planning and furniture layouts.
• Coordinate with architects, clients, site teams and sales team.
• Prepare 2D/3D presentations and design proposals.
• Ensure proper coordination between interior design and modular furniture requirements.
• Conduct site visits wherever required to understand measurements and site conditions.
• Convert approved concepts into production/execution-ready drawings.

D. BOQ & Estimation

This is a critical responsibility of the position.

• Prepare detailed BOQ (Bill of Quantities) for modular furniture and interior projects.
• Calculate quantities, dimensions, material requirements and hardware requirements.
• Prepare accurate project estimates based on drawings and specifications.
• Prepare item-wise costing for furniture and interior works.
• Calculate material, labour, installation, transportation and other project costs.
• Prepare client quotations based on approved costing and commercial parameters.
• Review estimates prepared by junior estimators/designers.
• Ensure minimum errors and deviations between estimated and actual project requirements.

E. Rate Analysis & Costing

• Conduct detailed rate analysis for furniture and interior works.
• Develop and maintain standard rate sheets for materials, labour, hardware and services.
• Analyse raw material and hardware costs.
• Calculate manufacturing and installation costs.
• Establish appropriate selling prices and gross margins in coordination with management.
• Compare vendor/subcontractor rates and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Review project profitability before final quotation.
• Identify cost overruns and provide corrective recommendations.

F. Sales & Client Support

• Work closely with the Sales/Business Development team.
• Attend important client meetings and project discussions.
• Understand client requirements and translate them into practical design solutions.
• Support the sales team during technical presentations and negotiations.
• Provide technical clarification regarding materials, specifications, costing and execution.
• Assist in closing high‑value projects through technically sound and commercially viable proposals.

G. Production & Execution Coordination

• Coordinate with production and site execution teams.

H. Team Management

• Lead designers, 3D visualizers, draftsmen and estimators.
• Allocate projects and responsibilities among team members.
• Review individual performance and productivity.
• Train team members in design, estimation, costing and BOQ preparation.
• Establish timelines for drawings, BOQs, estimates and quotations.
• Ensure timely submission of designs and estimates to Sales/Management.

Job Specification:

3. Educational Qualification

• B.Arch / Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Interior Design qualification
• B.Des / M.Des
• Civil/Engineering qualification with strong interior/modular furniture experience

Experience: 7-12 years of relevant experience in Modular furniture design, Interior design, BOQ preparation, Estimation, Costing, Rate analysis including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory/leadership role.

4. Technical Skills

Design Software

Strong working knowledge of relevant software such as:

• AutoCAD, 3ds Max / V-Ray
• Sketch Up, Revit added advantage
• Photoshop/CorelDraw added advantage
• MS Excel essential
