Job summary

AFS Control Systems is seeking a Design Engineer Projects to design, develop and manage safety and security system solutions for diverse projects in India. You will produce detailed engineering drawings, BOMs and specifications while ensuring designs meet NFPA/IEC/IS standards and customer requirements.

You will collaborate with project managers and site teams to ensure timely design delivery, provide technical guidance during installation, testing and commissioning, and continuously improve

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Diploma in Mechanical or related field with relevant design experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in safety & security design or project engineering.
• Proven ability to translate requirements into feasible design solutions.
• Familiarity with NFPA, IEC, ISO, IS standards and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Design safety and security systems (fire, CCTV, access control) per project specs.
• Create detailed drawings, layouts, schematics and BOMs using AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
• Coordinate with managers, teams and stakeholders to deliver designs on time.
• Review requirements and provide technical guidance during execution and testing.
• Provide site support, troubleshooting, and validation for installed designs.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and project quality policies.

Job Purpose

The Design Engineer Projects will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing engineering solutions for safety and security systems. The role will ensure that all designs meet customer requirements, project specifications, applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and cost and efficiency objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. System Design & Engineering

• Design safety and security systems such as Fire Alarm, Fire Detection, CCTV, Surveillance, Access Control, and related systems as per project requirements.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, schematics, and system designs using AutoCAD and other relevant design tools.
• Prepare design reports, site plans, technical specifications, design calculations, and other engineering documents.
• Review project requirements and translate them into practical and technically feasible design solutions.

2. Project Coordination

• Coordinate with project managers, execution teams, consultants, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and ensure timely design delivery.
• Provide technical support and guidance to site and installation teams during project execution.
• Coordinate closely with the Hardware Design/Engineering Team for system integration and equipment requirements.
• Support project teams in resolving design-related issues and technical challenges.

3. Equipment & Component Selection

• Select appropriate instruments, equipment, devices, and system components based on project specifications and technical requirements.
• Prepare and review Bill of Materials (BOM) and equipment specifications.
• Ensure selected equipment complies with applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.

4. Technical Documentation

• Prepare design calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, BOMs, and other project documentation.
• Maintain proper records of design revisions, approvals, changes, and technical submissions.
• Resolve technical queries raised by customers, consultants, project managers, and execution teams.

5. Testing & Validation

• Support simulations, testing, and validation of system designs to ensure functionality, reliability, and performance.
• Review designs for practical site implementation and identify potential issues before execution.
• Provide technical assistance during testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

6. Compliance & Standards

• Ensure designs comply with relevant NFPA, IEC, ISO, IS and other applicable industry standards.
• Ensure adherence to project specifications, statutory requirements, and company quality and safety policies.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, regulations, and best practices in the safety and security industry.

7. Design Optimization & Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to optimize system designs, improve performance, and reduce project costs.
• Recommend innovative and technically effective solutions.
• Review existing design practices and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.

8. Customer & Stakeholder Interaction

• Interact with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders to understand design requirements and resolve technical concerns.
• Provide technical explanations and support during design reviews and project discussions.
• Ensure designs meet customer expectations while maintaining technical and commercial feasibility.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other relevant engineering/design software.
• Strong knowledge of Fire Alarm/Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control, and Safety & Security Systems.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings, layouts, schematics, and design calculations.
• Knowledge of NFPA, IEC, ISO and relevant IS standards.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Good project engineering and coordination skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong documentation and attention to detail.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet design and project deadlines.
• Practical understanding of project execution and site requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelors degree/Diploma in Mechanical, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in safety & security systems design, project engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in project engineering and/or project coordination.
• Experience in designing systems for industrial, commercial, infrastructure, or large-scale projects will be preferred.
• Knowledge of project management principles is an advantage.
• Certification/training in NFPA, IS 2189, or other relevant safety standards will be an added advantage.
