Job summary

Voltas Limited - A TATA Enterprise in Thane, India, seeks a Design Engineer - Electrical to drive detailed electrical and ELV designs for major commercial projects. You will prepare and coordinate working drawings, ensuring compliance with contracts and standards, while interfacing with civil and architectural layouts.

Key responsibilities include coordinating with HVAC, plumbing, and fire systems, resolving site issues, and maintaining ISO records.

Qualifications

• Graduate in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering with approved training in Electrical/ELV.
• Knowledge of BIM software such as Revit & Navisworks would be an advantage.
• Experience in Electrical/ELV drawings and site execution (preferably GCC) will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy and technical correctness of the design and coordination of the working drawings produced.
• Prepare working drawings per project and company standards and specifications.
• Coordinate Electrical drawings with civil and architectural layouts and other services.
• Coordinate Electrical services with HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Fighting, including multiservice details.
• Resolve technical difficulties with site team / main contractor as directed by Project Manager.
• Maintain ISO documentation and drawing registers; delegate draftsmen as needed.
• Issue approved drawings to site and ensure timely delivery.

Title Design Engineer - ELECTRICAL

Reporting to: Design & Engineering Manager - Electrical

Role purpose

Undertakes the detailed design and preparation of working drawings for the Electrical & ELV works for major commercial and light industrial buildings.

Objectives

To complete the assignment within budgeted manhours / cost with margin.

Ensure that the design and drawings are prepared in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications and other contract documents.

Co-ordinate the Electrical services with the building layouts and other services.

Ensure that the drawings are prepared within the productivity norms.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy and technical correctness of the design and co-ordination of the working drawings produced.
• Prepare the working drawings in accordance with the project and company standards and specifications.
• Co-ordinate the Electrical drawings with the civil and architectural layouts.
• Co-ordinate the Electrical services with the Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Fire Fighting services, including preparation multiservice details.
• Resolution of technical difficulties with the site team / main contractor as directed by the Project Manager.
• Proactive coordination with civil contractor / subcontractors for effective execution of works ensure that the quality of the work is in full compliance to the contract specification, project quality plan and is completed of time.
• Obtain drawing approval from the professional team.
• Maintaining ISO documentation, Record Keeping, Suppliers/Manufacturers Data Bank records.
• Delegating Draftsmen for quantity take offs, cross checking quantities.
• Issue the approved drawings to site.
• Maintain the working drawing register (Drawing Log) for the Electrical / ELV drawings.
• Monitoring productivity and compiling relevant information on production rates.
• Participate in preparation and implement quality assurance plans.
• Preparation of record drawings.
• Identification of additional works and advice the Project Manager to enable formal instructions to be obtained.

Key Skills

Detailed engineering knowledge in the design and engineering of Medium, Low and Extra Low Electrical services for major commercial and light industrial buildings in the GCC. The services would include the following Systems:

• MV power including switchgear, transformer and cabling.
• LV power including panels, distribution boards, cable containment, cables, Wiring and supply accessories.
• Lighting and emergency lighting including light fittings, controls and central battery system.
• Fire Alarm
• Security system including CCTV and access control.
• Voice and Data
• Standby power Generation
• Uninterrupted power supply
• Building Management System (BMS)
• Solar Power System
• Earthing and lightning protection

Understanding of the method of construction of buildings.

Ability to communicate fluently in English - both orally and in writing

Developed computer skills, particularly in spreadsheets and databases.

Detailed design ability to undertake load distribution, cable and protection device selection and sizing calculations etc

Able to operate design software such as Dialux / eTAP etc

Detailed knowledge of International, Dubai and Abu Dhabi codes of practice, regulations, and specifications for the construction industry with particular knowledge of the Municipal and Civil Defence requirements.

Familiar with Air Conditioning as well as Plumbing / Fire Fighting systems.

Ability to read, understand, visualise and interpret drawings and specifications.

Identify training needs of the project team members reporting him and arrange for suitable training for them, in consultation with P.M for furtherance of their professional skills and competence

Education

Graduate in Electrical Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) / Diploma in Electrical Engineering Along With:

• Approved training in Electrical / ELV Field
• Knowledge of BIM softwares such as Revit & Navisworks would be an advantage.

Experience

10 years engineering experience with at least 2 years for a Graduate Engineer OR 15 years engineering experience with at least 4 years for Diploma Engineer in the preparation of Electrical & ELV drawings.

Minimum 2 years of experience in Site experience in installation / execution (Preferably in GCC Countries)

Knowledge of Air Conditioning & Plumbing / Fire Fighting systems would be an advantage

Hands on experience in Revit / Navisworks would be an advantage.
