Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Design Engineer – CATIA (Engine) to drive 3D design and development of engine components and assemblies using CATIA V5 and 3DX. You will produce detailed models and drawings for prototype and production releases, support ECOs, and ensure designs meet packaging, clearance, and drafting standards.

The role suits a hands-on Mechanical/Automobile engineer with strong CATIA experience, GD&T know-how, and PLM familiarity, who can take ownership of deliverables and collaborate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
• 4–6 years of engine design experience.
• Hands-on CATIA V5 and 3DX CAD modeling and assembly creation.
• Experience with engine packaging, GD&T (ASME) and drawings.
• Familiarity with PLM tools such as Teamcenter.
• Proficient in MS Office for documentation.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models of engine components and develop complete engine assemblies using CATIA V5 and 3DX.
• Prepare new engine component and assembly drawings for prototype and initial releases, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
• Conduct packaging studies for engine components and assemblies, including clearance and interference checks and design rule validation.
• Perform fastener and linear stack-up analysis for engine components and assemblies to ensure functional and robust designs.
• Check drawing prints in accordance with established drafting standards and ASME GDT standards to maintain consistency and quality.
• Update 3D models and drawings based on engineering change requests and ensure timely implementation of changes.
• Develop design proposals and perform CAD remastering for engine components and assemblies to support design improvements and reuse.
• Create and maintain engine assemblies using CAD and PLM tools, ensuring correct structure, configuration, and data integrity.
• Support engineering change management activities, including documentation, tracking, and implementation in CAD and PLM systems.
• Perform drawing checks for prototype, initial release, and post-production release stages to ensure readiness for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams by presenting design concepts, explaining design decisions, and addressing feedback.
• Independently manage assigned project deliverables, including planning work, meeting deadlines, and reporting progress.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (B.E/M.E) in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering.
• 4 to 6 years of strong working experience in engine commodity design and development.
• Hands-on experience with engine CAD using CATIA V5 and 3DX for 3D modeling and assembly creation.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling, new drawing creation, vehicle packaging, and assembly maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to perform fastener and linear stack-up analysis for engine components and assemblies.
• Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT) and proven ability to apply GDT in drawings in line with ASME standards.
• Experience in drawing checks for prototype, initial release, and post-production release using CATIA V5 / 3DX.
• Familiarity with at least one PLM tool or method, such as Teamcenter or similar systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
• Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey design intent and project status.
• Good analytical skills with the ability to independently handle project deliverables and solve design-related issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience specifically in engine components and engine assemblies within automotive or related industries.
• Prior involvement in engineering change management activities, including updating CAD models and drawings based on change requests.
• Experience with design rule checks, clearance and interference studies, and packaging of engine systems in vehicle environments.
• Exposure to CAD remastering activities, including converting and standardizing legacy models and drawings.
• Ability to work efficiently under shorter notice periods and quickly integrate into ongoing projects.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality design and documentation standards.
• Capability to collaborate with global or cross-functional teams and adapt to standardized drafting and design practices.
