Job summary

Magna International Inc. in Pune seeks a BIW Design Engineer to develop body-in-white components that meet performance, cost, and manufacturing targets. You will design BIW structures, produce CAD models and drawings, and work with CAE, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to deliver robust, production-ready solutions.

The role requires BE or DME in Mechanical, with 3–6 years (BE) or 5–7 years (DME) of experience, and proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 or NX. Strong teamwork and communication are essential.

• BE or DME in Mechanical/Automobile stream.
• 3-6 years experience with BE; 5-7 years with DME.

• BIW design and drawings with BOM and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop BIW structures (pillars, roof rails, cross members, floor panels).
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings; maintain GD&T and BOM.
• Collaborate with CAE, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality teams.
• Support DFMEA, DVP, and validation plans; ensure crash and durability goals.
• Interact with suppliers for tooling feasibility and manufacturability.

Job Responsibilities:

Role Purpose: Responsible for designing and developing Body in White (BIW) components that meet performance, cost, and manufacturing goals. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, production-ready solutions with a focus on structural integrity, efficiency, and compliance.

Reporting to: Assistant Manager/ Manager/Group lead

• Design and development of BIW structures including pillars, roof rails, cross members, floor panels, etc.
• 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using CAD software (Catia V5/V6, NX, etc.)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (CAE, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality) to meet product requirements.
• Support DFMEA, DVP, and validation plan preparation.
• Understand and incorporate crash, NVH, stiffness, and durability requirements in the design.
• Benchmarking and cost optimization for BIW parts.
• Tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T implementation.
• Interact with suppliers for tooling feasibility and part manufacturability.
• Support prototype build, testing, and root cause analysis of issues.

Key Performance Indicators: No Rework, Timely delivery.

Role Requirement:

Educational Qualification: BE / DME in Mechanical/production/automobile stream

No. of years of work experience: If BE then 3- 6 years. If DME then 5-7 years.

Critical Skill Sets (Technical)

• CAD Software: Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, NX, for designing and modeling BIW components
• BIW Component Knowledge: Understanding of A/B/C pillars, roof rails, floor panels, cross members, etc.
• Joining Technologies: Familiarity with spot welding, MIG welding, laser welding, adhesives, clinching, and riveting.
• GD&T: Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure proper fit and function of components.
• Manufacturing Processes: Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as stamping, welding, and assembly techniques used in BIW production.
• Drawing Creation: Preparation of detailed 2D drawings with BOM, annotations, and tolerances.
