Job summary

Thermax in India is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for boilers and pressure parts. You will study project requirements, prepare detailed drawings, and ensure compliance with international codes. The role involves collaboration with vendors, customer interactions for drawings approvals, and providing technical support for proposals.

Knowledge of PV Elite and AutoCAD 2D/3D is advantageous. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in structural calculations, piping layouts,

Qualifications

• Fundamentals of mechanical engineering and analysis.
• Strong geometry and technical calculation skills.
• Basics of boiler and heater detailed engineering.
• Knowledge of fuel systems and ash handling.
• Familiarity with design codes like IBR, ASME, EN, BS, API; PV Elite is a plus.
• Awareness of manufacturing processes: bending, welding, assembly and handling.
• Ability to read P&ID and flow diagrams.
• Proficient with engineering drawing and 2D/3D drafting tools like AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Understand project requirements and specifications.
• Prepare mechanical design of boilers including pressure parts, structure, piping, ducting, material handling equipment per specs.
• Design and prepare General Arrangement and foundation drawings, and detailed drawings including structure, piping and non-pressure parts.
• Provide inputs to vendors for materials and review vendor drawings.
• Analyze technical problems and provide solutions across design, manufacturing, construction, commissioning.
• Interact with customers/consultants and approval authorities for drawings and technical meetings.
• Provide technical support to Sales/Marketing for proposals.

Role & responsibilities

• To understand project requirements and specifications.


• Prepare Mechanical Design of Boilers including pressure parts, structure, piping, ducting, material handling equipment, etc according to client specifications as per national and international design codes.


• Design and preparation of General Arrangement and foundation drawings, and detailed drawings including structure, piping and non-pressure parts.


• To give inputs and specifications to vendors for material requirement, and to review and approve vendor drawings and documents.


• To analyse technical problems and provide solutions pertaining to design, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, etc.


• Interaction with customer/ consultant and approval authorities for drawing approvals, and technical meetings


• Technical Support to Sales/ marketing for proposals

Critical Competencies for the Job:

• Must be aware of fundamentals of mechanical engineering and analysis.


• Should be expert in Geometry and various mathematical calculations such as Area, MI , Section Modulus, Simply supported Beam, Velocity etc.


• Knowledge of concept and basics related to detailed engineering in boilers and heaters.


• Knowledge of types of fuel and fuel feeding system, fuel / ash handling equipment and storage systems


• Knowledge of design codes like IBR, ASME, EN, BS, API etc. and their application for mechanical design calculations. Familiarity with PV Elite will be an added advantage.


• Awareness of and manufacturing processes - bending, welding, assembly, handling and transportation


• Basic knowledge of interpreting P&ID and flow diagrams


• Knowledge of layouts, piping routings, non-conformances, and design changes.


• Basic knowledge of Engineering drawing as well as various drafting software such as AutoCAD and equivalent (2D and 3D)
