Job summary

Jobtailor in Chennai is seeking an experienced engineer to lead automotive wiring harness and electrical module design. You will benchmark module locations, design attachment schemes, and create detailed drawings using CATIA V5, contributing to robust, manufacturable solutions.

You will collaborate with the EESE team, evaluate manufacturing feasibility, and make tech decisions with engineers and suppliers, bringing innovative solutions to complex automotive wiring challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automobile, or Electrical Engineering.
• 4–10 years in automotive wiring harness and electrical modules/systems.
• Proficient in CATIA V5 with wiring harness design.
• Experience with Tier-1, service industry, or OEMs preferred.
• Ability to perform benchmarking and packaging studies for electrical modules/systems.
• Ability to independently design attachment schemes or brackets for electrical modules/systems.
• DFM for plastic and sheet metal components.
• Strong CAD experience in Wiring harness, wiring optimization studies, and drawings.
• Knowledge of Vehicle Architecture and subsystems.
• Knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering & Vismockup.
• Independent and collaborative work style.

Job description

• Conduct benchmarking and packaging studies to determine optimal locations for electrical modules and systems within vehicles.
• Independently design attachment schemes and brackets for these systems.
• Utilize CAD software for comprehensive wiring harness design, including wiring optimization studies and the creation of detailed drawings.
• Work closely with the Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering (EESE) team, providing support and developing innovative engineered solutions.
• Take technical decisions with D&R Engineers and suppliers as required.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Automobile, or Electrical Engineering.
• 4 to 10 years of hands-on experience working in automotive wiring harness & electrical modules/systems (e.g., Audible Vehicle Alert System, Engine Control Module / Unit, Combined Sensor Module, ADAS-Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
• Good working experience in CATIA V5 (GSD, Part Modelling, Drawing & Electrical Harness Design).
• Prior experience in Tier 1, Service Industry, or OEMs is preferred.
• Proficiency in performing benchmarking and packaging studies on electrical modules/systems and defining their locations in a vehicle.
• Ability to independently design attachment schemes or bracket designs for electrical modules/systems.
• Proficiency in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) for plastic and sheet metal components is essential for creating resilient designs.
• Strong CAD experience in Wiring harness, wiring optimization studies, and drawing creation.
• Familiarity with Vehicle Architecture, Vehicle Aggregate Groups, Sub-Groups, Systems, and Sub-Systems.
• Proficient in assessing manufacturing feasibility, assembly, and service feasibility.
• Good knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering & Vismockup.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
