Designation: Manager – Electrical Lead (Solar EPC)

Role Overview

We are looking for a technically competent and hands-on Electrical Lead for Solar EPC Projects. This person will manage and deliver electrical engineering, design, execution, commissioning, and (if applicable) O&M activities for solar power projects (rooftop, ground‑mounted, or utility‑scale). The Manager will ensure safe, high‑quality, timely, and cost‑effective delivery of all electrical scope for assigned projects, coordinate with cross‑functional teams, and act as the primary point‑of‑contact for electrical deliverables under the Project Head.

1. Electrical Design & Engineering

Review, validate, and, where required, prepare electrical engineering deliverables: Single Line Diagrams (SLD), DC/AC layouts, earthing/grounding & lightning protection plans, inverter & transformer sizing, cable sizing, load flow and fault calculations, auxiliary power design, lighting and panel designs.

Prepare or review BOQs/BOMs, technical specifications, RFQs and vendor technical evaluation for critical electrical components (inverters, switchgear, transformers, cables, SCADA/monitoring, protection devices).

Participate in tendering and procurement by giving technical input and assisting in vendor evaluation and selection for the electrical scope.

2. Project Execution & Site Management

Oversee electrical works on site: installation of PV‑array combiner boxes/string boxes, inverters, transformers/HT‑LT distribution, switchgear, cabling, earthing, auxiliary power, and SCADA/communication systems as per approved design.

Supervise and coordinate contractors/sub‑contractors, site engineers, and technicians to ensure execution as per approved drawings, quality, and schedule.

Ensure pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities: inspections, tests (electrical, protection, earthing), grid synchronization (if applicable), and handover documentation.

Maintain documentation: as‑built drawings, commissioning test reports, compliance certificates, and ensure statutory/regulatory approvals are secured.

3. Quality Assurance (QA), Safety & Compliance

Enforce adherence to relevant industry standards, safety norms, and project specifications throughout electrical design and execution phases.

Conduct site audits, inspections, and quality checks to ensure materials, workmanship, and installations meet defined standards.

Implement and maintain health, safety, and environment (HSE) protocols on‑site — especially for electrical installation, HT/LT works, earthing, and commissioning activities.

4. Team Management & Coordination

Report to Project Head and coordinate with design/engineering, procurement, civil/structural, logistics, quality, and site execution teams for integrated project delivery.

Mentor, lead and coordinate with electrical site engineers, supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors; clarify tasks, define responsibilities, monitor performance.

Provide technical guidance, resolve on‑site engineering issues, and ensure effective communication between different project stakeholders (internal teams, vendors, clients, statutory authorities).

5. Planning, Scheduling & Reporting

Assist in project planning: prepare electrical works schedule aligned with overall project timeline; ensure material procurement and site mobilization plan for electrical works are synchronized.

Monitor progress, identify critical‑path electrical activities, report delays or risks, and propose mitigation strategies to Project Head to ensure timely delivery.

Maintain updated MIS/status reports, progress trackers, site daily/weekly work reports, quality control records, and commissioning logs.

Review and manage budgets for electrical scope — ensure procurement and execution cost remain within approved limits; track cost variances.

Evaluate vendor/subcontractor proposals, manage subcontractor scope and deliverables, ensure timely payments post‑verification, and monitor vendor performance for quality and schedule adherence.

7. Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

If project scope includes O&M, support establishment of preventive and corrective maintenance protocols for electrical systems: transformers, switchgear, cables, SCADA/monitoring, and auxiliary systems.

Provide support during commissioning and initial plant operation — monitor electrical performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safe operations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics / Power Systems engineering (mandatory). Diploma + relevant experience may be considered in exceptional cases.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of PV solar electrical systems (modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, HT/LT, earthing, protection), grid connectivity norms, SCADA/monitoring systems. Familiarity with electrical standards, drawings & documentation practices, and electrical testing & commissioning procedures.

Software / Tools: Comfortable working with design and project management tools (e.g. AutoCAD for electrical drawings, project scheduling tools such as MS-Project/Primavera; familiarity with PV‑specific design tools is a plus).

Soft Skills & Other Abilities: Strong leadership, communication (verbal & written), stakeholder coordination, vendor management, problem‑solving, time & resource management, ability to work under tight timelines and regulatory constraints.
