Job summary

Tekion is seeking a Database Engineer II in Chennai to design, optimize, and scale our cloud-native database environments. You will own critical data platforms, implement schemas, optimize queries, and ensure healthy backups and failover across environments.

You will collaborate with developers, DevOps, and product teams to align database design with application needs, participate in code reviews, and help drive best practices for data management and security.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years of experience in database engineering or administration.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Proficiency in SQL, scripting (e.g., Python, Bash), and data management tools.
• Experience with database performance tuning, monitoring, and recovery strategies.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across engineering and infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

• Designs and implements database solutions, including schema changes, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
• Performs performance tuning, query optimization, and diagnostics to resolve system bottlenecks.
• Monitors and manages database health, backups, and failover procedures across environments.
• Automates recurring maintenance and data processing tasks using SQL and scripting tools.
• Collaborates with development, DevOps, and product teams to align database design with application needs.
• Participates in code reviews, documentation, and the enforcement of best practices.
• Supports incident response and root cause analysis for database-related issues.

Job Introduction:

The Database Engineer II plays a key role in supporting and optimizing Tekion's database environments. This role develops, maintains, and scales database solutions that ensure performance, availability, and security. It involves cross-functional collaboration, hands-on development, and growing ownership of key database operations.
