Job summary

Talent Corner Hr Services is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage PostgreSQL and MySQL environments across development, staging, and production. You will ensure high availability, performance, and security while supporting development teams with sound data modeling and best practices.

The role includes HA clusters (Patroni), backups/DR testing, schema design, and collaboration with architects and PMs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL and MySQL in production.
• Proven experience with backup/recovery tools and DR planning.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus/Grafana, pgAdmin, MySQL Workbench, SSMS).
• At least one relevant certification (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL) preferred.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools.

Responsibilities

• Install & configure PostgreSQL and MySQL across development, staging, production.
• Manage Patroni-based HA clusters, failover/failback simulations, and HA Proxy read/write split.
• Plan and execute upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Design and implement backups, DR strategies; test restore procedures and RPO/RTO compliance.
• Create and maintain ERDs, schemas, tables, and indexes.
• Monitor performance, tune queries, and optimize configurations for throughput.
• Collaborate on schema design, data modeling, and runbooks.
• Maintain documentation and ensure secure database access.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and safeguard our PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments. The ideal candidate will ensure high availability, performance, and security across production and non-production systems, while supporting development teams with sound database design and operational best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration and Administration

• Install & configure PostgreSQL and MySQL database instances across development, staging, and production environments.
• Manage Patroni-based HA clusters, failover/failback simulations, and HA Proxy read/write split.
• Knowledge of etcd leader election in HA setups.
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies; regularly test restore procedures and RPO/RTO compliance.

Database Related

• Create and maintain ERDs, schemas, tables, and indexes.
• Monitor database performance, proactively identify bottlenecks, and tune queries, indexes, and configurations for optimal throughput.
• Capture and analyse metrics for capacity planning and performance baselining.
• Experience in metrics capturing, monitoring tools (Prometheus/Grafana preferred).
• Manage database security, including user access controls, roles, encryption, and auditing in line with compliance requirements.

Development Related

• Basic knowledge of Node.js applications and containerization with Podman.
• Hands-On experience with - GitHub workflows (Branches, PRs, Git Commands, Cloning)
• Familiarity with DevOps pipelines for database deployments.

Collaboration

• Collaborate with development teams on schema design, query optimization, and data modelling best practices.
• Maintain clear documentation of database architecture, configurations, and operational runbooks.
• Experience with Zero Trust models and secure database access.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to database incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL and MySQL in production environments.
• Proven experience with backup/recovery tools (pg_dump/pg_base backup, mysqldump/Percona XtraBackup) and DR planning.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana, pgAdmin, MySQL Workbench, SSMS).
• At least one relevant certification (e.g., PostgreSQL Certified Professional, MySQL Database Administrator or equivalent in Azure/AWS/GCP). Preferred
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools.

Work Environment

• Full-time position; may require occasional after-hours or on-call support for critical incidents.
• Will be working with Chief Architect, Programmers and PM directly and reporting into Engineering Department
• Would be great if has any previous mentoring experience with Junior DBAs
