Lemongrass Consulting is seeking an experienced Hands-On SAP Data Architect contractor to lead legacy BW analysis and transition to modern cloud data platforms. You will drive Databricks/Lakehouse patterns andDatasphere/BDC architectures across SAP and cloud ecosystems.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of SAP BW/BW4HANA expertise and strong knowledge of SAP Datasphere, BDC, and analytics tooling such as Power BI, SAC, or Tableau.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on SAP BW (BW 7.x/BW4HANA) experience including BDC migrations.
• Deep knowledge of BW object types: InfoCubes, DSOs, MultiProviders, CompositeProviders, InfoObjects, OpenHub.
• Proficiency with BW tools and T-codes: RSA1, RSA2, RSPC, RSISET, SE16, DB02, ST03N.
• Strong understanding of BW lineage, S/4HANA integration, and data extraction patterns.

Responsibilities

• Lead SAP BW landscape analysis and remediation efforts aligned with S/4HANA and future-state BDC/Lakehouse architectures.
• Perform BW object lineage analysis from BEx Queries to DataSources at field level.
• Map BW reporting objects to downstream systems (Power BI, SAC, Tableau) to establish end‑to‑end data lineage.
• Document OpenHub, external extractors, and integration flows; identify workloads for Datasphere/BDC transition.
• Deliver data debt and technical debt analyses to support cloud data platform alignment.

Job description

Lemongrass Consulting is seeking an experienced contractor who is Hands-On SAP Data Architect who is experienced in solutioning, building high performing data teams and self-driven thought leader. The architect will be responsible for Legacy BW analysis, Target Databricks and BDC data modeling, fitment assessments, and remediation planning, and must have deep expertise in BDC, BW metadata, Azure and GCP Lakehouse architecture, and reporting structures.
This role is highly analytical and spans both traditional BW landscapes and next-generation SAP data platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong functional knowledge of SAP BW/BW4HANA combined with an understanding of SAP Datasphere and SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) concepts - including Databricks, data products, semantic modeling, lineage, and cross-system integration.
The architect will play a key role in evaluating BW objects for S/4 compatibility, mapping data flows to Datasphere/BDC architectures, and supporting reporting landscape rationalization across SAP and cloud ecosystems. This includes analyzing data lineage, object lifecycle dependencies, and opportunities to transition legacy BW workloads into modern, cloud-based data models.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive SAP BW landscape analysis and remediation activities related to S/4HANA program impacts, including alignment with future-state BDC and Lakehouse architectures.
• Conduct detailed user activity and BW object usage analysis using ST03N, RSR\, RSZ\ logs, and metadata to inform modernization and migration decisions.
• Perform top-down and bottom-up BW object lineage analysis — from BEx Queries through InfoProviders to DataSources — at the field and transformation level.
• Identify, classify, and rationalize active, inactive, and redundant BW objects; contribute to disposition and modernization strategy across BW, Databricks, Datasphere, and BDC.
• Map BEx queries and BW reporting objects to downstream consumer systems (Power BI, SAC, Tableau) to establish end-to-end data lineage and reporting impact.
• Document OpenHub, external extractors, and integration flows; identify common InfoProviders and opportunities to transition workloads into Datasphere/BDC data products.
• Contribute to BW optimization, prioritization, and disposition recommendation reports, including pathways for migration into Datasphere and BDC semantic models.
• Deliver technical debt and data debt analysis to support BW cleanup, S/4 readiness, and future-state cloud data platform alignment.
• Support reporting and analytics requirements related to BW, Datasphere, and BDC metadata consumption.
• Participate in project kick-offs, scope alignment sessions, and stakeholder review workshops across business, IT, and data platform teams.
• Ensure all deliverables meet agreed-upon acceptance criteria, quality standards, and milestone timelines.
• Ability to understand and develop enterprise grade global system landscape architecture diagrams in line with business needs
• Work in a global environment with cross-country and cross-region teams, demonstrating highly collaborative and exceptional English communication skills.

Required Skills & Experience

SAP BW & Data Architecture:

• 15+ years of hands-on experience with SAP BW (BW 7.x and/or BW/4HANA). Hands on Implementation experience with BDC migrations and setting up foundation and medallion architecture
• Strong knowledge of BW object types: InfoCubes, DSOs, MultiProviders, CompositeProviders, InfoObjects, and OpenHub Destinations.
• Deep experience with BEx Query Designer, Analysis for Office (AFO), and BW metadata analysis.
• Proficiency with BW T-codes: RSA1, RSA2, RSPC, RSISET, SE16, DB02, ST03N.
• Experience with BW lineage analysis and object dependency tracing (Top-Down and Bottom-Up).
• Strong understanding of ECC-to-BW data extraction patterns DataSource field mapping, S/4 Hana to BDC extraction and mapping.
• Experience working with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) dashboards — configuration and customization.
• Ability to read and interpret ABAP transformation code at a functional level (ABAP development not required).
• Knowledge of BW landscape rationalization, decommissioning principles, and usage-based classification.

Databricks, Lakehouse & Cloud Platforms:

• Strong knowledge of Databricks and Lakehouse architecture (Azure and GCP).
• Hands-on experience with Databricks Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Medallion Architecture patterns.
• Experience with cloud data engineering pipelines including ETL/ELT design and orchestration.
• Familiarity with Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, GCP BigQuery, and related cloud services.
• Understanding of SAP Datasphere and SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) concepts: data products, semantic modeling, lineage, and cross-system integration.
• Knowledge of Foundation Services and data governance frameworks within BDC/Datasphere.

Soft Skills & Delivery:

• Strong documentation skills; ability to produce client-ready analytical reports and recommendations.
• Exceptional communication skills in English; experience working in global, cross-region teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to present complex data architecture findings to non-technical audiences.
