Job summary

S&P Global Mumbai seeks a Data Analyst to support end-to-end data lifecycle activities, including sourcing, validation, enrichment, and delivery under SOPs. You will contribute to data quality, UAT, and automated workflows while collaborating across the Private Markets Data Operations team.

The role emphasizes data literacy, operational discipline, and continuous process improvement in a global service delivery setting.

Qualifications

  • Fresher: Postgraduate degree in Finance, Data Analytics, or related field (MBA (Finance), PGDM, or equivalent preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Shift & Work Schedule - flexible to global service delivery model; rotation across Asia, EMEA, US hours.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Certification and experience in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); basic knowledge of SQL, Python; familiarity with BI tools is an advantage.
  • Exposure to automation, Lean methodologies, or GenAI tools is a plus.
  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment under stringent deadline.
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn, ask questions, and continuously improve.

Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze financial documents from partners, including capital calls, distributions, and statements.
  • Access GP portals to download, categorize, and tag fund-related documents with metadata.
  • Extract, standardize, and validate data from Private Equity documents and schedules.
  • Identify accounting breakouts and classify fund-level investments data.
  • Perform data quality checks and resolve exceptions from QC reviews and logs.
  • Conduct routine reporting and basic trend analysis for internal analytics.
  • Support data cleansing initiatives to improve accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist with process improvement, Lean initiatives, and basic SQL-driven tasks.
  • Maintain documentation of data collection and validation for auditability.
  • Collaborate with team to meet individual and team targets with quality focus.
  • participate in ad-hoc projects aligned to business expansion or automation.

The Role

The Data Analyst is an individual contributor role that develops foundational proficiency in one or more workflows or datasets. The role supports end-to-end data lifecycle activities including sourcing, basic validation, enrichment, and delivery under guidance, adhering strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and set guidelines, and escalating deviations for a defined dataset or workflow. The role emphasizes building strong data literacy and operational discipline, learning industry concepts, and collaborating with other data research teams. Associates contribute to UAT and day-to-day solutioning, follow established standards, and participate in continuous process improvement and the adoption of technology and AI-enabled workflows.

The Team

We are looking for a detail-oriented and career-minded Data Analyst to join our Private Markets Data Operations team in Mumbai. This role is ideal for early-career professionals who are eager to build deep expertise in Private Equity data, financial statements, and fund structures, while developing strong analytical and automation skills. You will support the collection, analysis, validation, and maintenance of high-quality datasets sourced from Private Equity and alternative investment documents. Your work will directly contribute to the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of market-leading data used by global clients for decision-making and benchmarking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and analyze financial documents received from General/Limited Partners, including capital calls, distributions, financial statements, and schedules of investments.
  • Access GP portals and repositories to download, categorize, and tag fund-related documents with accurate metadata.
  • Extract, standardize, and validate data from Private Equity documents such as Partners’ Capital Account statements, cash flow statements, and investment schedules.
  • Identify appropriate accounting breakouts and classify data items related to fund-level investments and portfolio companies.
  • Perform data quality checks, resolve exceptions raised through manual QC reviews and automated validation logs, and ensure adherence to defined data standards.
  • Conduct routine reporting and basic trend analysis to support internal analytics and operational insights.
  • Support data cleansing initiatives to improve accuracy and consistency across datasets.
  • Assist with process improvement, Lean initiatives, and automation efforts, including basic SQL-driven data tasks.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data collection and validation processes for auditability and future reference.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver individual and team targets with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects aligned to business expansion, data enhancement, or automation initiatives.
Domain Knowledge & Skills
  • Basic understanding of Private Equity / Real Estate / Alternative Investment operations, including fund accounting and investor reporting concepts preferred.
  • General awareness of capital markets, alternative investments & Private Equity is preferred.
Basic Qualification

  • Shift & Work Schedule - This position operates under a global service delivery model and requires flexibility to work rotational shifts aligned to Asia, EMEA, and US business hours, based on business needs. During peak business periods (such as quarter-end or year-end reporting), there may be a requirement to work extended hours or shift overlaps to meet delivery timeline
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Certification and experience in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); basic knowledge of SQL, Python; familiarity with BI tools is an advantage.
