Job summary

Astrome Technologies seeks a detail-oriented Customs Handling Agent/Specialist to manage import/export documentation, classification, and clearance operations. You will liaise with freight forwarders, customs authorities, and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely clearance.

The role requires 2+ years in customs or logistics, experience with CMS/ERP, and a strong understanding of HS codes and valuation rules. Travel to head office and import/export offices may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in customs brokerage, import/export handling, or logistics operations.
• Experience using CMS, ERP, and MS Office/Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and process import/export documentation (invoices, packing lists, bills of lading).
• Classify goods under HS codes and declare duties and taxes accurately.
• Monitor entry status, coordinate inspections, and resolve clearance issues.
• Coordinate with logistics partners, freight forwarders, carriers, and internal teams.
• Maintain records and assist audits; track regulatory changes.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledge-driven Customs Handling Agent/Specialist to manage import and export customs documentation, compliance procedures, and clearance operations. In this role, you will act as a primary liaison between our organization, international freight forwarders, and customs authorities. The ideal candidate will ensure that all shipments are cleared accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with local and international trade laws.

• Customs Documentation & Filing: Prepare, review, and process required import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and customs entry forms.

• Tariff Classification & Valuation: Correctly classify goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes and ensure accurate declaration of duties, taxes, and fees.

• Compliance & Clearance: Monitor customs entry status, coordinate inspections with customs officials, and proactively resolve holds, delays, or clearance issues.

• Stakeholder Coordination: Maintain clear communication with logistics partners, freight forwarders, carriers, warehouse staff, and internal teams to facilitate seamless cargo movement.

• Record Keeping & Auditing: Maintain organized digital and physical archives of customs entries, audit documentation for compliance, and assist during internal or regulatory audits.

• Regulatory Tracking: Stay up to date with changes in trade regulations, customs tariffs, trade agreements, and import/export compliance laws.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, or related field preferred.

• Experience: 2+ years of experience in customs brokerage, import/export handling, or logistics operations.

• Technical Proficiency: Experience using Customs Management Systems (CMS), ERP software, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace (Excel, PPT, Doc).

• Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of Harmonized System (HS) coding, customs valuation rules, and local customs regulations.

• Certifications (Preferred): Licensed Customs Broker (LCB), Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), or equivalent industry credentials are a strong plus.

• High accuracy in review and entry of complex international documentation.

• Ability to quickly resolve clearance bottlenecks and regulatory discrepancies.

• Professional written and verbal communication with customs authorities and clients.

• Ability to manage multiple shipment deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• This role needs the person to be able to travel to Head office and import export customs office.
