Job description

Coordinator - Social Startup Programme in Ayodhya | Azim Premji Foundation

Azim Premji Foundation works to build a more just, fair and caring society, with a strong focus on public education and on supporting grassroots organisations across India. It works closely with teachers, communities and local groups so that change comes from the ground up. Through its Social Startup Programme, the Foundation helps experienced development workers start and run their own organisations in places where support is most needed. Selected founders receive eight months of guided support with a monthly stipend, followed by an assessment that decides a two-year seed grant. This role sits within the Foundation's Social Startup Programme, which helps development professionals set up new organisations in Bangalore Urban, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and North-East India.

Role

As Coordinator, you will run the programme on the ground in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. You will bring people to outreach sessions and build a list of interested candidates. During selection, you will make sure applications are screened fairly and on time. Once founders join, you will be their main point of contact for onboarding, reviews, wellbeing, partner introductions and logistics. This is a field role with regular travel, careful record keeping and some difficult conversations.

Responsibilities
  • Run regular outreach sessions with colleges, community groups, civil society organisations and networks, and keep an up-to-date list of interested candidates.
  • Help applicants apply, support the weekly screening on the portal, and arrange interviews and reference checks on the ground.
  • Keep every applicant informed at each stage, with clear updates on their status and next steps.
  • Onboard the founders assigned to you and act as their single point of contact, with weekly check‑ins, monthly in‑person reviews and quick escalation of issues.
  • Organise logistics for residential orientations and reviews, and record reviews and milestone evidence in the programme's MIS.
  • Coordinate with partner organisations for learning visits and postings through introductions, joint meetings and feedback conversations.
  • Support founders through registering their organisations, the end‑of‑programme assessment and the move to the seed grant.
  • Keep records complete and current, make sure support follows agreed milestones, and maintain good relationships with partners.
Requirements
  • A graduate degree in any discipline.
  • 4-6 years of field-level programme experience in the development sector, including some experience coordinating people, events or partners on the ground.
  • Fluency in Hindi and working English.
  • Willingness to travel widely across Eastern Uttar Pradesh and nearby areas, including occasional travel to residential programmes and events.
  • Proven ability to organise events, manage trackers and keep many tasks moving at once.
  • Good judgement with people and the warmth to support founders through difficult moments.
  • Comfort with digital tools such as portals, spreadsheets and MIS.
  • Experience in a fellowship or founder-support programme, local networks with institutions and community organisations, and facilitation skills are a plus.
  • Work closely with new social founders as they build organisations from the ground up.
  • Build strong networks with community groups, institutions and partner organisations across Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
  • Gain hands‑on experience in founder support and milestone‑based programme management with one of India's leading foundations.
