Humsafar in Mumbai is seeking a strategic Financial Manager with 8–10+ years of experience in financial management within the non-profit sector. You will provide financial insights, lead financial reporting, oversee operations, manage grants, ensure compliance with regulations, and guide the finance team to enhance efficiency. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Indian financial regulations and experience with donor-funded projects. This is a fixed contract position with opportunities for extension.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in financial management within the development/public health/non-profit sector.
  • Proven experience managing donor-funded projects, especially Global Fund or similar large-scale grants.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian financial regulations, including FCRA and statutory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, and team management skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.

Tenure: fixed contract up to 30th June 2026 and later extendable to March 2027.

Organisation Background

Founded in April 1994, The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of self-identified homosexual men, MSM, Hijras and LBT persons. The HIV interventions of HST are supported by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) to provide health services to Men who have sex with men (MSM) and Transgender communities every year through Public Health Care delivery systems and its In‑house clinics. HST delivers essential HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care services to MSM and transgender communities.

The Humsafar Trust has been awarded the Sub recipient of the Global fund Project NETREACH. This project aims to fast‑track national HIV response to reach first 95 targets, by reaching key populations (high risk groups, at risk adolescents and youth, men, and women with high‑risk behaviours) through virtual platforms. Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Strategy & Decision Support: Provide strategic financial insights and analysis to support organisational planning, decision‑making, and performance improvement.
  • Financial Reporting & Planning: Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly and periodic financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, budgets, variance analysis, forecasts, and cash flow.
  • Financial Operations & Controls: Oversee end‑to‑end financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, expense management, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations. Ensure robust internal controls, accurate record‑keeping, and timely month‑end/year‑end closures.
  • Team Leadership & Oversight: Supervise and guide the finance team, including task allocation across accounts payable/receivable, onboarding processes, benefits administration, and vendor/broker management.
  • Grant & Donor Management: Manage financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, utilisation tracking, reporting, and reconciliation. Ensure timely reporting and coordination with donors.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Management: Ensure full compliance with donor requirements and applicable statutory regulations, including FCRA, Income Tax Act, Companies Act, and Provident Fund. Incorporate feedback from LFA/OIG and strengthen financial systems accordingly.
  • Process Improvement & Systems Strengthening: Develop, implement, and continuously improve financial systems, processes, and controls in line with best practices to enhance efficiency and organisational effectiveness.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong experience in financial management within the development/public health/non‑profit sector (preferred).
  • Proven experience managing donor‑funded projects, especially Global Fund or similar large‑scale grants.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian financial regulations, including FCRA and statutory compliance.
