Job summary

Narayana Health in Jamshedpur is seeking a Medical Officer to oversee ED patient care and provide continuous on-site medical support. You will supervise nursing staff, coordinate with on-call consultants, document orders, and ensure timely investigations and referrals.

The role emphasizes adherence to hospital policies, accurate record-keeping, and active participation in rounds and quality improvement initiatives to maintain high patient care standards.

Responsibilities

• Prompt adequate and qualitative care of patients in ED.
• Provide continuous on-site medical support to meet patient needs.
• Delegate duties to medical officers and nursing staff in the department.
• Encourage proper patient care and ensure all staff adhere to organizational policies and processes.
• Maintain and upgrade the recorded ED register.
• Attend to new admissions immediately and take proper patient history.
• Check previous records if available and chart details in the history sheet.
• Obtain signature on history sheet for MLC cases from patient or relative.
• Discuss admissions with the on-call consultant and follow orders.
• Instruct nursing staff on necessary orders to be carried out.
• Inform respective consultants when significant.
• Attend rounds with consultants and update orders in the treatment sheet.
• Fill Medicine Card and Non-Drug Order sheet.
• Follow up all investigations and record results.
• Document verbal orders correctly in clinical notes.
• Activate code blue in medical emergencies.
• Identify critical status and transfer to critical care when needed.
• Contact primary consultant when necessary.
• Identify MLC/BID and obtain necessary police information.
• Ensure assessment sheets and orders are completed by MO.
• Conduct supervisory rounds of MLC patients and safe disposal of records.
• Investigate complaints and record for disciplinary action as required.
• Conduct training sessions as directed by DMS/MS.
• Create a team of staff for patient welfare and department functioning.
• Attend camps as per policy and follow hospital procedures.
• Fill cross-referral forms and liaise with cross consultants per policy.
• Use capital letters for medicines and sign with name, date, and time on every entry.
• Ensure completeness of records and participate in quality improvement programs.
• Act per hospital management communications.
• Promote patient care by liaisoning with all departments and participate in in-service education CPR/Health Safety/Fire.

Job description

• Responsible for promptadequate and qualitative care of the patients coming to E/D.
• Responsible to provide a continuouson site medical support service to meet the need of patient.
• Responsible for delegation of duties to medical officers nursing staff working in department.
• To encourage organize proper patient care and ensure all staff are adhere to organizational policies processes.
• To maintain upgrade the recorded Register of E/D.

Supervise and ensure M. O. Nursing staff:

• To attend any new patient (admission) immediately
• To examine take a proper history of the patient (If he is in a position to give it on his own) or from his relative.
• Check any previous recordsif available.
• Charts down all the details in the history sheet.
• Let the point or his relative go through all the details and take his signature on the history sheet for MLC Cases.
• Discuss with respective consultant on call about the admission follow his orders.
• Instruct the nursing staff about the necessary orders to be carried out.
• Inform the respective consultants whenever seems significant.
• Attend rounds with the respective consultants and carry out the necessary changes in the order. Enter them in the treatment sheet.
• Fill the Medicine Card and Non Drug Order sheet
• To follow up with all the investigations to be seen and trace their results.
• Note down investigation results in the investigation sheet.
• To Document Verbal Orders correctly in clinical notes if given by consultants.
• To activate code blue if any medical emergency is encountered beyond your control.
• To identify the critical status of patient and shift him to critical care area in time.
• Always contact primary consultant if found necessary at any point of time.

Medico Legal Case/Brought in Death:

• Identify the MLC/BID
• Proper police information as per need of the case.
• To get the assessment sheet consultant orderpre operation ordertreatment sheet dully filled by M. O.
• Conduct supervisory round of patient labeled as MLC and ensure safe disposal of records/document.
• Investigating complaintsproper recording and recommendation for disciplinary action.
• Conduct training session/work assign by DMS/MS.
• To create a team of staff for the benefit and welfare patient and smooth functioning of the department.

General:

• To attend camps according to the policy.
• To work as per Policies and procedures of organization.
• To get the cross referral form filled and call cross consultants according to the policy.
• Use capital letters for medicines (Generic Names/ Salt) and always put signnamedate and time with every entry you make.
• To take care about completeness of records
• To participate in quality improvement programs and training sessions
• To act accordingly as per communicated by hospital management team.

In-Service Education Promotion of Organization:

• Promote patient care by liaisoning with all departments.
• Participate in the in-service education programinclusive of CPRHealth Safety Training and Fire.
• Ensure medical competence by continual professional development and reading of current medical journals.
• Promote the centre by showing empathy and compassion to patientstheir families and friends.
