Job summary

philm CGI is seeking a talented concept and illustration artist to join its 2D animation team as an internship. You will design and paint environments for animated projects, from early concept explorations to final background art, collaborating closely with art directors and animators.

You will create concept art, develop final backgrounds, and explore mood, lighting, and color to support storytelling. This internship offers hands-on experience and potential growth within the animation pipeline.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in digital illustration with eye for composition, perspective, color, and lighting.
• Solid background design skills including environments, props, and architecture.

About the Role

We're looking for a talented concept / Illustration artist and background designer to join our 2D animation team. You'll design and paint environments for animated projects, from early concept explorations to final background art, working closely with our art directors and animators.

Requirements

• Strong foundation in digital illustration, with an eye for composition, perspective, colour, and lighting
• Solid background design skills, including environments, props, and architecture
• Proficiency in Photoshop.
• A portfolio that shows background or environment work; personal projects and college work are welcome
• Ability to adapt to different art styles and follow style guides
• Good communication skills and a willingness to take feedback
• Able to work from our Pune office

Good to Have

• Basic understanding of 2D animation workflows and background layout
• Experience with stylised, children's, or storybook-style animation
