Job description

Context

The UNAIDS Country Office in India provides leadership and coordinates the expanded UN system response in India towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Using an equity and equality lens as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UCO India scales up HIV services focused on key and vulnerable populations and locations most at risk.

The UCO India promotes effective use of strategic information to better understand and track the epidemic and its trends, and to measure progress and sustainable impact of the response in India. It supports efforts to strengthen the capacities of communities and their meaningful engagement in health, social protection, and human rights mechanisms, and provides intellectual support and technical guidance as necessary to national partners and policymakers.

The Policy, Advocacy and Knowledge Branch has the overarching goal of enabling policy, law and fiscal environments to support the goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. It focuses on influencing, partnerships, advocacy and communications centered on human rights, gender, communities, legal and policy reform and equitable financing.

Role Overview

Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

The role supports planning and implementation of communication and outreach activities to enhance programme visibility, stakeholder engagement, and community participation, with a focus on young people and Young Key Populations (YKP). It involves developing diverse content, managing digital platforms, producing multimedia materials, supporting youth engagement and advocacy, strengthening partnerships, coordinating events, documenting activities, and preparing reports and communication outputs to support programme delivery and visibility.

Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Country Director, UNAIDS India, support the design and implementation of communication strategies; develop engaging content (articles, blogs, social media posts, IEC materials) to enhance programme visibility and highlight impact for young audiences and YKP.
  • Create short‑form multimedia content (videos, reels, graphics) and manage social media platforms through scheduling, posting, and performance monitoring to strengthen outreach and digital presence.
  • Facilitate meaningful engagement of young people and YKP by supporting advocacy efforts and inclusion in policy dialogue, programme planning and decision‑making platforms.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships by identifying youth networks, influencers and organizations; foster collaborations to expand outreach, promote social change and advance UNAIDS’ young key populations agenda.
  • Support planning and coordination of events, campaigns and workshops; document activities and contribute to preparation of reports, presentations and communication outputs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism, International Development, or other relevant subjects.

Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in communications, outreach and social media management.
  • Strong understanding of Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube ecosystems.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas in a creative, clear, direct and lively style.
  • Good knowledge of design and editing tools such as Canva, InShot, Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Good understanding of youth issues.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and network in the areas of youth engagement.
  • Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills, excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; drafting, formulation, reporting skills; interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organisations and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet.
  • Self‑motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
