The India programme is at an exciting stage of growth, focused on building institutional partnerships, generating research and insights, and establishing a strong presence within the transport and sustainability sectors.

The Role

The Communications & Outreach Associate will play a key role in building the programme's public profile and positioning it as a credible and influential voice within India's climate, infrastructure, and transport ecosystem.

This is a strategic communications role requiring strong writing skills, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and the ability to translate complex policy and technical concepts into compelling content for diverse audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, funders, media, and industry stakeholders.

The role will work closely with the India leadership team to develop and execute communication, outreach, and engagement initiatives across media, events, digital platforms, and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a communications and outreach strategy aligned with programme objectives and stakeholder engagement goals.
  • Draft and support the placement of opinion pieces, articles, commentary, and thought leadership content in leading national and sector-focused publications.
  • Manage and strengthen the programme's digital presence across relevant platforms and communication channels.
  • Plan and coordinate stakeholder events, roundtables, consultations, and participation in sector conferences and convenings.
  • Produce regular newsletters, briefings, and stakeholder communication materials.
  • Support media engagement activities and manage external communication requests.
  • Collaborate with international and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of communications efforts.
  • Provide editorial and communications support for research publications, reports, presentations, and donor communications.
Ideal Candidate
  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, policy communications, journalism, public affairs, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write for varied audiences and formats.
  • Experience working with media outlets or a strong understanding of the Indian media landscape.
  • Familiarity with climate, energy, sustainability, infrastructure, public policy, or related sectors is desirable.
  • Experience managing events, stakeholder engagements, or roundtables.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality outputs within timelines.
Engagement Details
  • Part-time engagement (approximately 2.5–3 days per week) or deliverable-based arrangement.
