Job summary

The ePlane Company in Chennai is seeking a skilled CNC Operator to set up, operate, and maintain 3-axis and 5-axis CNC routers, mills, and gantry systems for composite components and related materials. You will ensure precise machining of carbon fiber, fiberglass, and other materials.

You will manage tooling/fixturing, read GD&T drawings, monitor cutting params, ensure dust control and PPE compliance, and perform routine maintenance. CMM/laser tracker knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2–5+ years setting up and operating CNC machines, with 1–2 years in composites.
• ITI Fitter or Diploma in Mechanical; relevant degree acceptable.
• Ability to read CAD/CAM models and GD&T drawings.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate multi-axis (3-axis/5-axis) CNC routing, milling, and trimming machines.
• Select, install, and align composite tooling and manage vacuum workholding systems.
• Read and interpret 3D CAD/CAM models, drawings, and GD&T specs.
• Monitor cutting parameters to prevent delamination, splintering, or heat buildup in composites.
• Ensure safety with dust containment and PPE; follow clean-room standards.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance on CNC machines, vacuum pumps, and dust collection units; troubleshoot G-code.
• Knowledge on CMM & Laser tracker is advantage

Job description

Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines (routers, mills, and gantry systems) to machine, trim, and drill composite components (carbon fiber, fiberglass, sandwich cores), MDF boards, Metallic materials to tight tolerances. Responsible for Setting up of Jigs & Assembly fixtures as per requirements.

Requirements

• Experience: 2–5+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC machines, with at least 1–2 years specifically focused on composite materials.
• Education: ITI Fitter, Diploma in Mechanical or any suitable degrees
• Technical Requirements:
• CNC Setup & Operation: Set up and operate multi-axis (3-axis / 5-axis) CNC routing, milling, and trimming machines.
• Tooling & Fixturing Management: Select, install, and align composite-specific tooling (diamond-coated/PCD tooling, router bits, compression cutters) and manage vacuum workholding systems (vacuum tables, custom soft-jaws, porous fixtures). Setting up of Assembly Jigs & Fixtures.
• Blueprint & GD&T Interpretation: Read and interpret complex 3D CAD/CAM models, engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
• Process & Tool Path Monitoring: Monitor cutting parameters (speeds, feeds, dust extraction flow) to prevent delamination, splintering, fiber pull-out, or heat build-up in composite structures.
• EHS & Dust Suppression: Strict adherence to safety protocols regarding airborne composite dust, including operating dust containment systems (HEPA vacuums), wearing required PPE (P100/respirators), and maintaining clean-room standards.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform daily preventative maintenance on CNC machinery, vacuum pumps, and dust collection units; troubleshoot minor G-code program or setup issues.
