Role Overview
We are looking for a Civil Design Engineer to support the design and engineering of renewable energy and power infrastructure projects. The role will be responsible for preparing and reviewing civil engineering designs, drawings, calculations, BOQs and technical documentation for projects across different stages, from tendering and detailed engineering through execution. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of civil design for solar PV projects, substations, transmission & distribution infrastructure and associated electrical infrastructure, with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal engineering teams, consultants, vendors and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review civil engineering designs and drawings for solar PV plants, substations, BESS and other power infrastructure projects.
- Develop civil layouts, site plans, grading plans, drainage layouts, road layouts, foundations and equipment layouts.
- Prepare structural and civil design inputs for equipment foundations, transformer foundations, inverter foundations, control rooms, cable trenches and other project infrastructure.
- Design and review foundations for solar module mounting structures and associated equipment, wherever applicable.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, construction drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD and relevant civil design software.
- Conduct and review civil design calculations related to foundations, earthworks, drainage, roads and other infrastructure.
- Review topographical surveys, geotechnical reports and site investigation data and incorporate relevant inputs into designs.
- Prepare BOQs, quantity estimates, technical specifications and material requirements for civil works.
- Support preparation of civil engineering deliverables during the tendering, design and execution stages of projects.
- Review technical specifications, tender documents and client requirements and ensure designs comply with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Coordinate with electrical, structural, mechanical and other engineering teams to ensure integrated project designs.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors and vendors for design development, technical clarifications and drawing reviews.
- Review vendor drawings and technical submissions related to civil works and provide necessary comments.
- Support site teams during project execution by resolving design-related queries and providing technical clarifications.
- Carry out site visits, where required, to understand project requirements, verify site conditions and support execution teams.
- Ensure civil designs comply with applicable IS/IEC standards, international codes, client specifications and local statutory requirements, as applicable.
- Identify design risks, constructability issues and potential cost optimisations and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Maintain proper documentation and revision control of drawings, calculations, BOQs and other engineering deliverables.
- Support project teams in ensuring timely completion of engineering deliverables in line with project schedules.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university/institution.
- 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in civil design and engineering, preferably within renewable energy, power infrastructure, EPC or infrastructure projects.
- Experience in designing civil works for solar PV plants, substations, BESS, transmission & distribution or similar power projects will be preferred.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant civil/structural design and analysis software.
- Good understanding of civil engineering principles, structural foundations, site development, drainage, roads and earthworks.
- Experience in preparing BOQs, design calculations, technical specifications and engineering drawings.
- Ability to interpret survey data, geotechnical reports, technical specifications and engineering documents.
- Knowledge of applicable Indian and international engineering standards and codes.
- Strong coordination and communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Software & Engineering Tools
Mandatory / Strong Working Knowledge
- AutoCAD civil GA drawings, grading, drainage, roads, foundations, cable trenches and construction drawings.
- STAAD.Pro structural analysis and design of RCC and steel structures, equipment supports and foundations.
- Autodesk Civil 3D topographical surfaces, contours, grading, cut/fill optimisation, roads, drainage and earthwork quantities.
- STAAD Foundation Advanced / equivalent foundation design software isolated, combined, raft and equipment foundation analysis/design.
- MS Excel (Advanced) engineering calculations, quantity take-offs, BOQs and design calculation sheets.
Desirable / Added Advantage
- ETABS / SAFE structural and RCC building/foundation analysis, particularly for control rooms and buildings.
- QGIS / ArcGIS site mapping, coordinates, terrain and spatial-data review for utility-scale projects.
- Revit / BIM tools multidisciplinary model coordination where required.
- MS Project or equivalent engineering deliverable and schedule tracking.
- Working awareness of PVsyst outputs and solar layout parameters for multidisciplinary coordination; energy-yield modelling is not a core requirement for this civil role.
Project-Specific Civil Design & Calculation Capability
Solar PV Projects
- Solar MMS/pile foundation design inputs including driven piles, micro-piles or RCC pedestal foundations, as applicable.
- Interpret geotechnical parameters for SBC, pile capacity, pull-out/uplift resistance, settlement and foundation selection.
- Review wind-load transfer and structural/foundation reactions for module mounting structures.
- Prepare/review grading, cut-and-fill optimisation, stormwater drainage, internal/access roads, inverter/transformer foundations, cable trenches and fencing foundations.
BESS Projects
- Battery container, PCS, MV skid and transformer foundation design/review.
- Equipment anchoring, bearing pressure and settlement checks considering OEM static/dynamic loads.
- Equipment access, heavy-equipment movement, crane/maintenance access, drainage and site development.
- Coordinate civil requirements related to fire separation, oil containment/bunds, fire-water routing and other project-specific safety provisions.
Substation / Power Infrastructure
- Transformer foundations, oil containment/bund, fire walls, GIS/AIS equipment foundations and control-room structures.
- Cable trenches, equipment supports, gantry/support structure interfaces, roads, drainage and overall yard development.
- Coordinate civil inputs with electrical equipment layouts, earthing, underground services and cable routing.
General Engineering Calculations
- RCC and structural-steel design calculations with applicable load combinations and code references.
- Foundation bearing pressure, settlement, uplift, sliding and overturning checks.
- Wind and seismic load considerations as applicable to project location and governing code.
- Retaining structures and slope-stability considerations where required by terrain.
- Stormwater runoff/catchment assessment and drain sizing.
- Road/pavement design and vehicle turning/access assessment.
- Earthwork quantities, cut/fill balancing and quantity optimisation.
Codes & Standards
- Strong working knowledge of applicable IS codes and Indian engineering practices.
- Working exposure to relevant international codes/standards such as ACI, ASCE, Eurocodes and BS standards, depending on project/client requirements.
- Ability to identify and apply project-specific local statutory requirements and country-specific design criteria for international projects.
