Job summary

Lane is seeking a CTO to own its entire technology stack, including customer and instructor apps, LaneBuddy, data pipelines, and the sensor platform. You will lead a growing engineering team and partner with external stakeholders to scale Lane into India’s driving data company.

In this founding leadership role, you will drive product and platform strategy, own data governance, and build partnerships with customers, regulators, and investors as Lane expands in Bengaluru and beyond.

Qualifications

• Built a product from scratch to scale and owned the customer journey end to end.
• Built systems that process very large volumes of data, ideally high-frequency telemetry.
• Spent most of your career in fast-moving startups.
• Led and grown engineering teams, and can still go deep on architecture.
• You are comfortable representing Lane with external partners.

• Own the entire tech stack and platform, from customer apps to LaneBuddy and data layer.
• Lead and scale the engineering team, shaping architecture and delivery.
• Build and own data pipelines with DPDP-compliant consent and sharing.

Lane needs a CTO to own its entire technology stack: the customer and instructor apps, RTO and licensing, car commerce, internal tools, our data, and LaneBuddy, our sensor platform. LaneBuddy's real-time driving data is also starting to find uses well beyond our own customers. We want a leader who will build, together with our team, the platform that carries all of Lane to scale and makes it India's driving data company.

About Lane

Lane is a driving education platform, on a mission to reach zero road fatalities in India. One journey takes a customer from first lesson to licence to first car.

Since January 2025: 5,000+ learners, 60+ instructors and 45,000+ hours taught. Backed by Kae Capital, DeVC, Antler India, Panthera Peak and angels.

What you'll own

• The entire stack: every product and system at Lane, connected into one customer record from first lesson to first car.
• LaneBuddy: turn driving data into products that measure how people drive, reward safe drivers through insurance, guide better car purchases, warn drivers before accidents happen, and work with authorities to make India's roads safer.
• The data layer: pipelines for product and sensor data at scale, with DPDP-compliant consent and sharing.
• Partnerships: represent Lane's technology with partners, public bodies and investors.
• The team: lead and grow a passionate team that is already shipping, and build its next layer of leaders.

In 12 months

The customer and instructor apps are live with sensor detection and the intervention model, LaneBuddy's first external partnerships are under way, and the team is built to scale.

Who you are

• You have built a product from scratch to scale and owned the customer journey end to end.
• You have built systems that process very large volumes of data, ideally high-frequency telemetry.
• You have spent most of your career in fast-moving startups.
• You build with a team, not around it. You have led and grown engineering teams, you make the people already there better, and you can still go deep on architecture.
• You are at ease representing Lane with external partners.

Good to have: sensors, telematics or on-device ML; consumer marketplaces in India; mobility or insurtech.
