Job Summary
The Chief Engineer will lead and oversee Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) operations across a geographically distributed portfolio of 37 sites in 13 cities across India. The role is responsible for ensuring reliable building operations, energy optimization, preventive maintenance execution, repair and maintenance activities, vendor management, statutory compliance, and delivery of minor infrastructure projects.The position requires strong technical leadership, operational governance, stakeholder management, and the ability to drive service excellence across multiple locations while ensuring safety, uptime, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
MEP Operations Management
- Oversee end-to-end MEP operations across all assigned sites.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of critical systems including HVAC, electrical systems, DG sets, UPS, transformers, plumbing, fire & life safety systems, and BMS.
- Drive standardization of engineering processes and operating procedures across all locations.
- Monitor technical performance metrics and ensure achievement of SLAs and KPIs.
Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM)
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all engineering assets.
- Ensure timely closure of PPM schedules with proper documentation and audit readiness.
- Conduct periodic technical audits and identify opportunities for reliability improvement.
Repair & Maintenance
- Lead breakdown maintenance and ensure minimal downtime of critical assets.
- Establish escalation protocols and root cause analysis mechanisms for recurring issues.
- Monitor asset health and lifecycle management strategies.
Energy Management
- Drive energy conservation initiatives and sustainability programs across the portfolio.
- Monitor utility consumption trends and identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
- Implement energy efficiency projects related to HVAC, lighting, automation, and utilities.
- Track energy KPIs and support reporting requirements.
AMC & Vendor Management
- Manage Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) for engineering systems and services.
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Support budgeting, cost control, and commercial evaluations related to engineering services.
Minor Infrastructure Projects
- Manage minor capex and infrastructure enhancement projects across sites.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, consultants, and vendors for project execution.
- Ensure projects are completed within scope, timelines, budget, and quality standards.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Drive EHS standards and safe work practices across all sites.
- Support audits related to engineering, safety, and compliance.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Lead regional/site engineering teams and provide technical guidance.
- Coordinate with clients, facility teams, procurement, finance, and project stakeholders.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional certifications in facilities management or energy management are preferred.
Experience
- 12-18 years of experience in MEP operations and facilities management.
- Experience managing large multi-site portfolios across multiple cities.
- Strong exposure to commercial real estate, corporate facilities, industrial, or mixed-use environments.
- Proven experience in energy management, maintenance strategy, and vendor governance.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of MEP systems and critical facility infrastructure.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, fire systems, BMS, and utilities management.
- Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools.
- Understanding of statutory compliance and safety regulations applicable in India.
- Budgeting, cost optimization, and project management capabilities.
