Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking a DevOps/Infrastructure Automation specialist to design, implement, and maintain Chef-based automation for Windows and Linux environments. You will manage CI/CD pipelines, monitor infrastructure, and collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure high availability.

The role requires experience with Chef, Jenkins, Env0, and GitHub Actions, along with scripting proficiency in Ruby, Python, or Bash.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain Chef cookbooks for Windows and Linux environments.
• Maintain and upgrade Chef recipes to align with software releases and patches.
• Monitor, triage, and remediate Chef-related tickets; manage Chef dashboard issues.
• Maintain Chef Automate on Paramount Cloud infrastructure and AWS EC2 deployments.
• Support disaster recovery configurations and promote cookbooks across environments.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth deployments.
• Monitor system performance and maintain high availability and reliability.
• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to improve processes.
• Ensure infrastructure security and compliance with best practices.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Automation

• Chef Cookbook creation
• Previous experience in creating new cookbooks for new operatingsystems
• Previous experience in creatingcookbooks for both Windows and Linux
• Previous experience in creating cookbooks for application deployment such as MS SQL, MongoDB.
• Previous experience with automated cookbook testing.
• Maintain existing Chef Recipes
• For all existing Chef recipes the team should maintain them in a working state. Update them as necessary to keep up with latest software releases and patches
• Monitor ticketing queue for Chef related trouble tickets that come in and remediate the issues
• If the Chef dashboard is reporting any issues, the team should create a trouble ticket for it and remediate it on their own
• Maintain Chef Automate software running on Paramount Cloud infrastructure
• We installed Chef on AWS EC2 and we maintain that software and upgrades to it. The team should be able to maintain this and upgrade when necessary
• There is also DR configured for Chef and the team should be able to initiate DR and support our configuration
• Make sure cookbooks are promoted across environments when deployed.

Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD)

Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and efficient code deployments.

System Monitoring and Maintenance

Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of infrastructure.

Collaboration

Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to streamline processes and improve collaboration.

Security and Compliance

Ensure that infrastructure complies with security standards and best practices.

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Proficiency

Strong knowledge of Chef, as well as other DevOps tools like Jenkins, Env0, GitHub actions.

Scripting and Programming

Proficiency in scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, or Bash.

Problem-Solving

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address infrastructure issues.

Communication

Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
