Job summary

Sanrachna Steel, Inc. in Bengaluru seeks a diligent Junior Checker to read and interpret contract drawings, check 3D models, and ensure fabrication drawings comply with AISC, AWS, OSHA, and SDS2 standards.

Placement is permanent with a 3-month probation. Shift timings are 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm IST. Compensation is based on experience and aligns with market norms for steel detailing roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Diploma in civil or mechanical engineering required; SDS2 experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of AISC codes, OSHA and related standards.
• Experience reading and interpreting structural/architectural drawings.
• Ability to create RFIs and provide solutions to fabrication teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural steel detail checking to ensure drawings meet specifications and AISC standards.
• Ensure compliance with design drawings and industry standards (AISC, AWS, OSHA, NISD).
• Provide technical assistance to modelers and detailers; support fabrication teams.
• Generate sketches, plans, and layouts as needed; address field fixes during fabrication/erection.
• Communicate effectively with project teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

Located in a bustling city Bangalore, India, Baghiraa has made extensive efforts in turning one of its offices in India into a minimal waste facility that is over 90% plastic free. The challenge will be extensive in the US locations to mirror this same practice (considering the US as a nation and culture operates on extensive waste in the name of convenience) but this effort, in essence, is the core of our company’s culture.

The company has recently acquired parcels of land in both Atlanta, GA and in Broomfield, CO with buildout plans to follow best-practice sustainability principles, such as Earthship Architecture. We plan to use as close to 100% recycled or reused materials as we can. The sites will consist of office space for employees, a co-working space for the community, residential quarters for employees, a walk-up café/juice bar with outdoor seating for the community, an outdoor multi-use kitchen, as well as a beautiful garden and habitat for various farm animals. Ultimately, the goal of our offices is to become a model for sustainability practices in construction that promote healthy living. Additionally, the locations will serve as educational resource centers for the use of recycled goods, in conjunction with a site to supply recycled materials to the community. In doing this, we aim to make recycled materials more available to the public and the construction industry.

We take the basics of detailing very serious and have built a strong team of experts with knowledge on AISC, CISC, AWS and OSHA Standards. Profile Summary

The Junior Checker requires the ability to read and interpret contract drawings, check 3D models, drawings, and reports to be released for fabrication. Requires knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Welding Society (AWS), The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Institute of Steel Design (NISD) standards. Experience in structural steel and architectural/miscellaneous detailing is a must.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Perform structural steel detail checking to ensure the drawings conform to the specifications, engineering requirements, AISC standards, and operational specific specifications
• Must comply with the requirements of the design drawings and all industry standards and protocols, such as those established by AISC, AWS, and comply with current OSHA and NISD guidelines
• Provide technical assistance to the Modelers and Detailers
• Thorough and proficient with creating RFIs while capable of providing solutions to fabricators
• Provide sketches, plans, designs, and layouts as necessary
• Provide detailing solutions to address various field fixes as they may arise throughout the fabrication and installation of the steel
• Assist the team with any drawing support required to complete the drawing approval, fabrication, or erection process to ensure excellence
• Communicate complex and technical application issues to non-technical parties verbally and/or written
• Communicate effectively with team, project managers, fabricators, and erectors
• Ability to read and comprehend construction plans and specifications

Requirements

Qualifications and Technical Competencies

• Bachelor’s/Diploma degree of civil or mechanical engineering is required - work experience in SDS2 may substitute as an equivalent to a Bachelor’s/Diploma degree
• 1-5 years of experience in steel detailing on SDS2 is a must.
• Working knowledge of AISC codes, OSHA, and other standards are a must.
• Strong experience in reading and interpreting structural/architectural design drawings
• Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing, steel erection, and shop fabrication process
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
• Basic mathematics including geometry and trigonometry
• Knowledge of welding specifications
