Job summary

Sanrachna Steel, a Baghiraa subsidiary in Bangalore, seeks a Senior Modeler with 5–10 years of SDS2 experience to read, model, and detailing for structural/architectural projects. You will prepare 3D models, BOMs, and shop/GA drawings, ensuring compliance with AISC/OSHA/NISD standards and client requirements.

Role requires a Civil/Mech eng degree (or equivalent), proficiency in SDS2 and AutoCAD, and strong math/blueprint interpretation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Diploma degree in civil or mechanical engineering is required; SDS2 may substitute.
• 5-10 years of experience in steel detailing with SDS2.
• Working knowledge of AISC codes, OSHA, AWS, and similar standards.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural/architectural drawings.

Located in a bustling city Bangalore, India, Baghiraa has made extensive efforts in turning one of its offices in India into a minimal waste facility that is over 90% plastic free. The challenge will be extensive in the US locations to mirror this same practice (considering the US as a nation and culture operates on extensive waste in the name of convenience) but this effort, in essence, is the core of our company’s culture.

The company has recently acquired parcels of land in both Atlanta, GA and in Broomfield, CO with buildout plans to follow best-practice sustainability principles, such as Earthship Architecture. We plan to use as close to 100% recycled or reused materials as we can. The sites will consist of office space for employees, a co-working space for the community, residential quarters for employees, a walk-up café/juice bar with outdoor seating for the community, an outdoor multi-use kitchen, as well as a beautiful garden and habitat for various farm animals. Ultimately, the goal of our offices is to become a model for sustainability practices in construction that promote healthy living. Additionally, the locations will serve as educational resource centers for the use of recycled goods, in conjunction with a site to supply recycled materials to the community. Job Description

Steel Detailing plays a crucial role in the construction lifecycle. We take the basics of detailing very serious and have built a strong team of experts with knowledge on AISC, CISC, AWS and OSHA Standards. We detail the projects in SDS2. The Senior Modeler requires the ability to read and interpret contract drawings, create templates, place members, 3D models of the structures, connections, and sections. Requires knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Welding Society (AWS), The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Institute of Steel Design (NISD) standards. Experience in structural steel and architectural/miscellaneous detailing is a must.

Roles and Responsibilities

Works closely with Detailers/Checkers and Project Managers to prepare/submit 3D models for the structural and architectural projects for commercial and industrial buildings

Serve as a support analyst and operate detailing platforms such as SDS2 , AutoCAD, etc.

Must comply with the requirements of the design drawings and all industry standards and protocols, such as those established by AISC, AWS and comply with current OSHA, and NISD guidelines

Prepares Bill of Material, Title Block, Template, and Reports as per Client’s requirement

Strong knowledge of member placement

The Senior Modeler will suggest connections wherever drawings have insufficient information, subject to the approval of the architect and structural engineer

Ensure accurate and timely delivery of drawings according to company’s and/or customer’s standards

Generates the GA drawings, Shop drawings, Erection drawings with related reports

Accurately complete and check all necessary system input for finalization of model and Bill of Materials

Prepares the RFIs and updates in the model as per RFIs response from the customer

Regular upkeep of the Engineering filing system and support Documentation Control

Flexible with performing other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications and Technical Competencies

Bachelor’s/Diploma degree in civil or mechanical engineering is required; work experience in SDS2 may substitute as an equivalent to a Bachelor’s/Diploma degree

5-10 years of experience in steel detailing with SDS2 is a must

Working knowledge of AISC codes, OSHA, AWS, and other standards are a must

Strong experience in reading and interpreting structural/architectural design drawings

Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing, steel erection and shop fabrication processes

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications

Basic mathematics including geometry and trigonometry

Knowledge of welding specifications

Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and Google Workspace
