Job summary

NewsX in India is seeking an experienced political journalist to cover Assam politics, state government, elections and major developments. The role requires developing and maintaining strong relationships with senior political leaders, ministers, MLAs and key party sources.

You will have access to CMO and government officials, break exclusive stories, conduct interviews with the Chief Minister and senior leaders, travel across Assam for ground reporting, and collaborate with the editorial desk

Qualifications

• 10+ years political journalism experience in Assam.

Responsibilities

• Cover Assam politics, state government, political parties, elections and major political developments.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior political leaders, ministers, MLAs and key party sources.
• Have regular access to CMO/Chief Minister's Office sources and senior government officials.
• Break exclusive political stories, developments and political appointments.
• Conduct exclusive interviews with the Chief Minister, ministers and senior political leaders.
• Generate breaking news, political inputs, exclusive stories and ground reports.
• Track political strategy, cabinet decisions, party meetings, elections and internal political developments.
• Attend press conferences, political meetings, government briefings and major political events.
• Build a strong network across both ruling and opposition parties.
• Provide accurate, verified and timely information to the newsroom.
• Work closely with the editorial desk to develop political stories and special reports.
• Travel across Assam when required for political coverage and ground reporting.
