Lead the design, delivery and maintenance of safety-critical embedded firmware for Battery Management Systems (BMS) across cell, module and pack levels. Own firmware architecture, requirements-to-release execution, cross-team integration (HW, algorithms, testing, cloud/telemetry), and mentor a small team of firmware engineers.
Job Responsibilities
KEY DELIVERABLES OF THE ROLE
- Lead end-to-end firmware development for BMS ECUs (cell/board/module/pack level): architecture, implementation, code reviews, CI and releases.
- Define and translate system and safety requirements (functional & non-functional) into firmware requirements and test cases; support requirements management.
- Implement and maintain battery-control algorithms interfaces (SOC/SOH/State estimation, balancing control, thermal management controls, Fault Management) in firmware; collaborate with algorithm/controls team.
- Design and own BMS communications stack (CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, UART, Ethernet, SPI/I²C to sensors/ICs) and data telemetry uplinks (MQTT/HTTPs).
- Lead hardware-firmware integration, calibration and validation: lab testing, MIL/SIL/HIL, automated test harnesses and production test procedures.
- Ensure firmware satisfies safety (ISO 26262/ASIL where applicable), EMC, and functional safety requirements; coordinate with safety engineers for FMEA and safety cases.
- Improve firmware development process: coding standards, static analysis, unit & integration testing, CI/CD, over-the-air (OTA) update design and secure boot.
- Drive supplier and vendor interactions for BMS ICs, charge controllers, and test equipment; create firmware integration plans for suppliers.
- Actively participate in battery homologation activities and proactively resolve the issues
Qualifications

- Hands‑on experience with automotive/industrial field buses (CAN/CAN‑FD, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostics.
- Experience with firmware development lifecycle: version control (git), CI pipelines, unit testing frameworks, code review practices.
- Solid understanding of battery electrochemistry concepts (SOC/SOH basics, cell balancing implications) and thermal management.
- Practical exposure to test & validation: HIL, MIL, automated test benches and debug tools (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers).
- Communication skills to interface with systems, hardware, algorithm and product teams; English fluent.
- ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 safety experience, familiarity with safety case and FMEA deliverables.
- Experience with OTA update frameworks, secure boot, hardware root-of-trust and cryptographic signing.
- Experience porting/optimizing firmware across MCUs (NXP, STM32, Renesas, MPS) or BMS IC vendors.
- Experience in AFE and ADC modules
- Data pipelines/telemetry knowledge (edge-to-cloud messaging, data compression, telemetry security).
- Knowledge of GNSS, GPS, BLE and other connectivity module is preferred
- Familiarity with model-based design workflows (Matlab/Simulink MIL/SIL/HIL integration)
